Threads on SSPX

We have several interesting threads related to the SSPX and that’s OK. What is not OK is that some posters are attacking each other, the Vatican, the Council, or the Society. Please remember the rules for talking about the SSPX.

You may not proselytize for any group whose status is irregular. This includes the SSPX.

You may not attack any member of the clergy. This includes the priests of the SSPX. Disagreeing with them is one thing. Any attempt to discredit them or hurt their good name is treated as seriously as any attack to do the same to a cleric or religious who is in full communion with the Church. The clergy deserves respect, regardless of our agreement or disagreement. Stick to the point and leave the person alone.

If the mudslinging continues, we may have to put the SSPX and anything related on the back burner for a few days until people calm down. I’d rather not do that. I’m sure that the administration supports my wish to keep this subject open for discussion. However, we all have to do our best to be charitable, objective and dispassionate. Otherwise, the dialogue turns into a conflict.

What’s the line between defending the SSPX and promoting the SSPX?

Laszlo, I believe that Hokomai was playing on words. Yes, it is always improper to shoot the PM (or the president, or a senator…)

Defending the SSPX would be pointing out where someone’s opinion or statement of fact was in error.

Promoting the SSPX would be advising someone that because of what the SSPX believes that person should start following the SSPX teachings and do what the SSPX does.

For example, one could defend the SSPX’s belief that they have valid orders without promoting the idea that young men should be ordained in the order.

Despite my request, I had to close a thread and issue suspensions for proselytizing for the SSPX. Please refrain from doing so. If a poster asks a question, answer it consistently with the Vatican. Do not insert your opinion. That only milseads the poster.

If a poster asks for your opinion, then you may offer it. However, if your opinion differes from the statements made by the Church, please inform your reader that this is your opinion and that you do not share the Church’s opinion. It’s the honest way to answer. It allows those who are new to the subject the opportunity of knowing that what posters say may not be what the Church has said or what she wants.
