Is it a mortal sin to threaten someone that you will break their hands? My friend has a tendency to do that.

By any chance is your friend named Dimsdale, and does he find himself pursued by a 40’ tall hedgehog named “Spiney Norman”?

“Uh, yeah, Dimshdale. 'E was an 'ard man, but fair.”

It’s not a mortal sin, but is sort of mean. Then again, it depends on the context.

I teasingly tell my bestest friend I’m going to punch him in the head all the time. He tells me to bring it, and we playfully beat the heck out of each other. Then again, we’re 30 going on 12-at least that’s what his wife always says.

Alot of guys will do that-it’s just guys being guys.

If your friend is serious about it, it’s not a mortal sin-yet. If he actually does it, then yes, that’s mortal.

He nailed my head to the floor… but I deserved it. Good old Dinsey!

I babysit/nanny. When the healthy 7-13yo charges get whiny and antsy before a meal and demanding…especally when they are not behaving… I say “youre not going to starve to death. If you do, I will make sure you have a nice funeral”

its a joke. They know and I know.
they have been properly fed and snacked and supper is at the same time every day. I use dark humor to relieve stress.

It all depends on the context.

Usually, no it is not, because usually the person saying it is
either kidding or otherwise simply does not mean it seriously.

If the person is a vicious, violent-tempered person with a brutal streak
and means what he says, then yes it IS a mortal sin, I would think.
Also,
in such a case, to seriously threaten to do
bodily harm to anther person is ALSO very much illegal, and the person to whom the
threat is made, can have the person arrested for making the threat.
