🙂 Hi!

Say, it was really great to hear the news on National Public Radio this Saturday morning that Cleveland’s St.Ignatius High School now has around 200 students participating in their St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society, providing vital funeral ministry services for the elderly and homeless, men and women with few, if any, living relations.

The teacher being interviewd said this service was one of the Catholic “Corporal Works of Mercy.”

To do him credit, the NPR radio interviewer then insisted that the teacher explain just what “Corporal Works of Mercy” were and how many are there, which the teacher obliging did.

Talk about spirituality combined with faith in action.

A Cleveland Plain Dealer article by reporter Robert L. Smith can be reached by most any search engine.

The online title is “Student group eases burden at funerals.”

Keep the faith!

this school unlike many Catholic high schools in large cities, remains in its inner-city near West Side neighborhood, and retains its long tradition of service to this neighborhood and the community. SIL is an honor graduate of this school, proud to say, and a credit to his upbringing.

students of this school participate in several outreach projects to the homeless and poor in their inner city neighborhood in conjunction with various projets and social service organizations, including ministry to the homeless. The boys are encouraged to see the school as part of, not aloof from, the neighborhood, and service based on the works of mercy is a huge component of education there.
