I thought I would start a thread to call out and possibly embarass poor Monicatholic because she gave me the most wonderful weekend!
She came and picked me up and brought me into her home so we could attend the Detroit Catholic women’s conference together (I’m sorry to say we missed seekerJen and mitziemia, because I slept in and we arrived late)
Anyways she is a wonderful sweet lady, a fantastic cook, a fabulous hostess and she has a beautiful family 😃 My baby is sure going to miss all the spoiling he got over the weekend!

Hip hip hooray!

So jealous that you got to meet one of my fav posters!!!

Sounds like a great weekend! 🙂

Hi! I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet the two of you. According to Monica, I think I was sitting on the opposite side from the two of you. I told her that I was looking for two women with a baby, and all the groups I saw that met those qualifications either had a baby who was too old, or women who were obviously related. I hope you enjoyed what you were able to see. Wasn’t Bishop Flores awesome?

I know, it’s too bad we missed you! I should have told you I had my babe in a grey wrap :o . Anyways, I totally agree, Bishop Flores was incredible! It was such a moving talk that he gave.

oh, Tapioca, you’re so sweet. (but you forgot to mention the part that even after 10 kids: not a single UV ray, not a moment of gravity and not one calorie has had ANY effect on me!!!)

a couple of things:
*if every time you come to visit, my husband brings home tapioca pudding in your honor, my kids will insist you visit monthly!!

*we love your baby. CAF friends, a wonderful thing to witness: Tapioca and her beautiful baby. they fit like hand and glove. they are both naturals at loving each other. instead of 4 (plus nine) months, they look like they’ve been together for a long time. what a joy to see a new mom feel so profoundly ‘right’ in her relationship with Baby.

*it was so much ***my ***pleasure, Tapioca. in the Jewish tradition, to accept a gift is to give a gift-- a mitzvah, a blessing. by allowing my family and me to host you and Beautiful Boy for the weekend, you gave us a mitzvah-- a wonderful blessing and gift. thank you.

*bishop Flores was really excellent, wasn’t he? will you or seeker Jen keep an eye for when the conference releases his talk on CD for sale? CAF folks would love to hear it, I’m sure.

*you have powerful prayers, Tapioca. Bernadette and I approached the border praying the rosary, but the lines, though short, were stopped. Tapioca, people were asked to step out of cars. flashlights everywhere. cars were re-routed off the customs line right in front of us. of the forty cars ahead of us in various lines, all were slow though, at least half were more delayed, at least a quarter were physically detained and searched. I assured Bernadette that even though customs experience made us feel threatened, we were not. Tapioca, we were through customs in four minutes. FOUR MINUTES. the travelers all around us must have thought we were diplomats. FOUR minutes. !!!
  • oh. that check? it’s in the mail. i sent it back to you.
next time, Seeker Jen, Tapioca and I will be visiting the Nat’l Shrine of the Little Flower and Fr. Solanus Casey’s Capuchin Friary. that’s out your way. . we want you to come.

also, seeker Jen and i will meet sometime before the new year in A2, i think. right?

queene anne, pack the kids and hop an amtrak. i’ll pick you up in ann arbor!

it was a wonderful weekend. God is sooo good to us all.

I’d love to meet up with the two of you at the Shrine! Maybe we could have lunch or coffee+dessert on Royal Oak’s Main Street (they have an Astoria bakery shop, the same bakery that sells the goodies in Greektown 👍 ).

And yes, Monica, we will meet up sometime in the next couple of weeks. I’ll PM you.

I’m pretty sure I heard that Michigan Catholic Radio would broadcast the talks but I can’t find any info online. I don’t have my conference program here with me, but I think there was info in there and I hope it will go up on the website soon.

I’ll def be up in the Lansing area in June for my cousin’s wedding. :D:D

I didn’t know you were so close…I was just in Detroit (Bloomfield Hills) this past July for my BIL’s wedding!!

Wow… how awesome! I agree Monica is one of my faves too… but then so is Tapioca… I so wish we could have a CAF get together someday… and that I could actually attend…

You are TOO KIND! Seriously! Folks, you should have seen how Monica and her family took care of me. My baby was so happy because he always had people to play with :). And Monica, your family is just beautiful! It’s really inspired me to think about a large family myself. Your teens are so helpful your smaller ones so sweet and funny. It really is something.
I’m so glad all our prayers worked and you got through the border so quickly! That is great to hear!
As to the cheque, you are a silly goose. A little bit of gas money is the least I could do for you for driving 12 HOURS out of your way to pick me up and drop me off!
Anyways folks I have to tell you that I was a little nervous going away for a weekend with a total stranger but I didn’t need to be at all, Monica and her dear DH couldn’t have been better! They even got me my favorite dessert 😃 :D. I really could go on and on and on about how well I was treated.
I only wish I could do something in return ;).

Anyways I totally think we should do some sort of CAF meetup sometime. That would be really something! I’ll bring the pudding 😉

tapioca,
you’re too funny. dontcha know that NOBODY would believe that photo is of me?

Why?

because of all my old fashioned-ness in modesty threads. nobody would believe I’d wear low-slung spaghetti straps.

but i like what you do with sepia effects. i wish i wasn’t in my housedress, but this is a nice pic.

So, were you guys in Ann Arbor?

Did you go to Zingerman’s?

Next time I’m there visiting my sister, I’ll meet you guys there! Bring lots of money! mmmmm… Conte cheese!

God bless us all, especially my poor sister,

Ruthie

zingermans and TREASURE MART, Ruthie. that’s what we’ll do.

Ruthie, St. Thomas is my parish. i taught catechism there till just this month when i took a DRE job elsewhere. i love that neighborhood. i love our parish.

i love Zingermans.

but most of all i love TREASURE MART!!!

Okay, I’ll bite. I know (and love) Zingerman’s, but WHAT is Treasure Mart? 😃

That is so great–! Good for you guys…👍

I so too wish we could have a CAF get together…

If anyone knows of any seminars for Catholics coming to Tampa Bay soon…I’m in!🙂

Jen,

here’s treasure mart. it’s 2 blocks from St. Thomas and a half block from Zingermans. it’s the best little junk shop (and not so junk shop) in the world. overall pricey, but i have found astonishing good buys. our front room is decorated in mid-century treasure mart. i love love love treasure mart.

Hey, Monica,

My poor sister wouldn’t know St. Thomas’ parish - she’s a JW. She’s also pretty much homebound with severe social anxiety disorder.

Please pray for her!

Thanks,

Ruthie
