Sadly Our Church has taught much on Suffering. And that is b/c suffering is universal as well. Be us 4, 24, 44(< me.) or 104.
All one needs it a good hard look at The Cross, and Mary at the foot of it. And the reason He didn’t just ‘Make it So’ and our sins would have been forgiven… He needn’t have done so with such deep suffering, not to forgive us. But God did chose That Way for a reason.
.
Mary bringing her little boy to the temple to be told by a prophet bout all of the terrible suffering he would endure and thus she would endure one day. Why? It was to be a day filled with Joy!.
B/c life Is suffering. Our joyous times are not to last.
And more so… The only way True Joy ever really enters into this world IS Through suffering.
Much of our present day suffering is self-induced. Not ALL, but a;pt of it.
We don’t get what we want - Our spouse leaves us, we lose our nice home ,we wanted more from our lives. Even those dying from hunger are dying b/c other people chose Not to help them but to keep all donations and sell them - or there are none to give.
Illness is of course not often by our own choice - but again it is something which is a part of this material world of nature.
Often times it does have to do with attitude and point of view, but when this is mentioned people go ballistic. But it is often true none the less. Not ALWAYS, but often enough to warrant this comment. Same day, 2 people walking home. One asks the other ‘How Was YOUR Day?’ “Oh horrible, how was Your Day?” - “It was a nice day today”. Now who is right. For it is only ‘a day’. It isn’t a good day nor a bad day. It has simply been ‘a day’. But your view of it is what makes the Day for you good or bad or lukewarm.
2 same people lose a spouse. Both are suffering, but one suffers in despair. Why the difference?
One has faith that God indeed has not abandoned her, loves her like no other and sees a much bigger picture when we ever can from here. But we trust in Him and offer up our suffering as Mary dis at the Cross. The other woman despairs, feeling life is no worth living IF she no longer has a or b or in this case the one she loved. Choosing to dwell on the days without him and not on the gratitude that she had days of such joy to begin with for some never do.
Gratitude, Trust in God, and forgetting what IS important. Why you are even here - and what you are doing with your bag of coins, your knowledge and love for God. Have you shared it with others or buried it or thrown it away in anger. Do you resent God know, no longer if ever - truly trusting in Him? Or is everything about You. How about the 5 year old dying of cancer surrounded by her parents. She’s had no time to ‘fall in love’ but has she known real love? She is surrounded by it - and as she dies, is completely embraced by it. Her parents can again: Be grateful for those 5 years or live miserably for the next 40.
These are choices we make. And often they are based solely on our Trust of God.
and if that is lacking, then there is a serious problem, you have forgotten why we are even here no wonder the despair.

speak honestly - where does the bitterness come from… if only within yourself or with a priest.
Find the true source of our pain - and despair if it exists… despair is the difference between Peter who denied Jesus 3x being forgiven and made Rock of The Church, and Judas of course committing suicide.
Our own Response - and Our Choice within it.
For IF suffering were NOT Important FOR US, Jesus would have had No Need to suffer as He did… He could have simply wished it and our sins would have been forgiven. His choice says a lot about ours and our own lives.
Peace be with you my friend, may The Blood of Christ and His wounds heal your wounds of despair and heart ache. Peace.
