Interesting replies…

well I certainly only want to follow approved private revelations, not unapproved ones.

The 3 days of darkness was also talked about by Blessed Maria Taigi, who certainly seems reliable… propheciesii.blogspot.com/2005/09/final-prophecies-of-blessed-maria.html

maybe sometimes false revelations mimic true ones, and that might explain the similarity between this prophesy by Blessed Maria Taigi (and possibly St Padre Pio) and those by false mystics?

Has anyone here heard about the three days of darkness prophesy? I read that several people received this prophesy and they are Blesseds and Saints… what it says is that there will be a chastisement for the world if we don’t all turn to God, and that is three days & nights of complete darkness and during that time the people who haven’t turned to God would die except a few that would be converted later on. Some believers will die too but they will be innocent and will be martyrs. During that time we must stay in the house and shut all the doors and windows and not look outside, not even look outside the window… and if anyone does look, they will die instantly because God’s justice is holy and He doesn’t want us to see it. There will be a lot of demons everywhere too, hurricanes of fire, earthquakes and other frightening things, and apparently, some poisonous gas that will spread everywhere so the windows should be shut and sealed in properly. We must stay at home and pray and ask for forgiveness, seek Mary’s protection, and repent of sin… it’s important to be in a state of grace… then we won’t be as frightened. Also, only a blessed candle would give light, nothing else. Apparently this is a chastisement worse than the Flood, except it’s by fire, not by water, as there would never be another great flood. After the three days and nights, the stars will come out and then the sun, and it will be springtime and a time of peace for the world. Apparently after this peace, evil will gain hand once more and then the antichrist will come, and then the end of the world. But some have said that the Second Coming will be during or after those 3 days.

Will it happen? who knows, it might…

when? I have no idea…

however when I think of it, I feel really afraid. 😦 what do you all think? how should we react to this prophesy?? i’ve been wondering sometimes… the reason I took it more seriously is because apparently the prophesy was also given to St Padre Pio, but does anyone know if this letter is accurate and actually from him… divinemercyinc.com/St%20Padre%20Pio%20Prophecies.htm I tend to believe the things St Padre Pio says because he was really close to God and could discern things.

Should we prepare for this just in case it happens??

thanks
IMO, this is no better than all those “end of the world” prophecies we as Catholics condemn in other religions.

Whatever happens will happen in God’s good time and there is nothing one can do about it. It is not intended for us to know that which the Father has reserved for Himself. And we don’t need to be paying any more attention to Satan than is necessary. Focus on Jesus Christ instead.

There are much better and more enlightening things to read which will be of better benefit to us because, to be blunt, we are more likely to meet our own end before the world ends, and need to be prepared for that. And Saints, as holy as they are, are not perfect, revelations to them are private, they can be misinterpreted or even be false. Saints are Saints because of the holiness of their lives, not because of private revelations and prophecies, stigmatas, etc.

I know this sounds a bit harsh, but it was brought home to me a few months ago when my DH of 41 years was suddenly and without warning struck down with a stroke. He almost died on the floor in front of me. He has fully recovered, rather miraculously, but it sure brought home to me the fact that I better be paying attention to my own relationship with Jesus and getting closer to Him rather than worrying about such things.

There is nothing wrong with stocking your pantry with excess food and supplies to care for your family and neighbors in the event there are disasters of any kind. This is being prudent and wise. You will be able to be part of the solution to a problem instead of a hindrance. Our Nation is facing the most uncertain times since the Civil War. People need to realize that our future is going to be dependent on the people of this great nation, not the Government. We need to be ready to help ourselves and others. I am not trying to bring or promote fear. I am only telling people to look at what is going on all around the world. It could very well be happening here sooner than we believe.
The above quote would appear to be referring to “preparing” . The part of my previous post quoted in the above refers to *“hoarding”, *and this out of being obsessed with different forms of prophecy . There are certain similarities, but they aren’t the same thing.

Whether, wise and prudent or not , food preparing, like food hoarding is often triggered by fear ; an uncertainty as to whether certain essentials will be in short suppy or will be available at all. It is fear of the unknown ( a pretty common thing among humans ) and can be synonymous with a fear of lack of control.

Unlike food hoarding, preparing has its valid points … to a point . In a sense that parents or someone who has a responsibility to their children or family to provide for their needs may be justified in taking preventive or preparatory measures within reason.

Case in point would be an incident which happened recently here. It makes it hard to deny that it would be a good idea to keep a little extra bottled water on hand:

Only a week and a half ago, the water supply for an entire borough/city here just 8 miles away became contaminated by a human error. Everyone in that suburb had to go to town hall to pick up bottled water for several days.

Now , if someone has several dozen large bottles of water on hand which were stored over time , that can turn out to be wise and prudent in light of the aforementioned. However, if someone panics upon hearing their water supply has been contaminated, and rushes out to buy as much bottled water as their car or truck can hold, their hoarding may actually be contributing to the problem by depleting a supply which each citizen of the suburb should have had a legitimate and equal right to buy.

Hoarding - whether by reaction to false (or private) prophecy or economical forecasts, usually ends up causing a chain reaction of further deprivation to those who are already in need…who are already going without ; the poorest . Hoarding rice in North America, for example, can even create a domestic shortfall of supply in the actual country of origin - where the rice was grown (how weird/unfair is that ?.. You can grow it but only we get to eat it…:dts:)

From Father John Hardon, S.J.'s Modern Catholic Dictionary -
TEMPERANCE
The virtue that moderates the desire for pleasure. In the widest sense, temperance regulates every form of enjoyment that comes from the exercise of a human power or faculty, e.g., purely spiritual joy arising from intellectual activity or even the consolations experienced in prayer and emotional pleasure produced by such things as pleasant music or the sight of a beautiful scene. In the strict sense, however, temperance is the correlative of fortitude. As fortitude controls rashness and fear in the face of the major pains that threaten to unbalance human nature, so temperance controls desire for major pleasures. Since pleasure follows from all natural activity, it is most intense when associated with our most natural activities. On the level of sense feeling, they are the pleasures that serve the individual person through food and drink, and the human race through carnal intercourse. Temperance mainly refers to these appetites. (Etym. Latin temperare, to apportion, regulate, qualify.)

It always becomes a little risky any time we lose sight of the point precisely where faith in ourselves begins to supersede our faith in God.

It can be said that most of the prominent heroic examples we have in the bible of people sharing food, is sharing from the little they have rather than from an abundance:

Our Lord fed 5,000 people with only seven loaves and a few small fish – not 5,000 loaves and 7,000 fish.

… Several more examples:

Mark 12: 41-44

He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums.

A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.

Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, "Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury.

For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood."

1 Kings 17: 12-13

“As the LORD, your God, lives,” she answered, “I have nothing baked; there is only a handful of flour in my jar and a little oil in my jug. Just now I was collecting a couple of sticks, to go in and prepare something for myself and my son; when we have eaten it, we shall die.”

“Do not be afraid,” Elijah said to her. "Go and do as you propose. But first make me a little cake and bring it to me. Then you can prepare something for yourself and your son.

Luke 4:1-2

Filled with the holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert

for forty days, to be tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over he was hungry.

Exodus 16:15,19-20

"This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat. …

…Moses also told them, “Let no one keep any of it over until tomorrow morning.”

But they would not listen to him. When some kept a part of it over until the following morning, it became wormy and rotten. Therefore Moses was displeased with them.

Finally, what was he saying when our Blessed Lord taught us to pray - at our request, replying, "…Give us this day, our daily bread " … almost sounds like that song, *Lean on Me *… doesn’t it ?

🙂

Interesting find because it is from Blessed Maria Taigi: “There shall come over the whole earth an intense darkness lasting three days and three nights. Nothing can be seen, and the air will be laden with pestilence which claim mainly, but not only, the enemies of religion. It will be impossible to use any man-made lighting during this darkness, except blessed candles. He, who out of curiosity, opens his window to look out, or leaves his home, will fall dead on the spot. During these three days, people should remain in their homes, pray the Rosary and beg God for mercy.”

If GoDaddy.com has some sort of imprimatur where only Cardinals can register domain names and publish articles then that would be one thing. Otherwise it is best to trust Church sources.

Being prepared with blessed candles, etc. can do no harm. Sometimes the Church moves a little slowly. It took 13 years and a change of Bishops before the Miracle of the Sun in Fatima was declared worthy of belief. Saint Faustina’s Divine Mercy was condemned for almost 50 years, one could only imagine how much more mercy would have been obtained if it was recognized at the onset.

It’s generally a good idea to adhere to what the Church says rather than quickly and thoughtlessly following the voices in one’s head telling one to do things, or following the voices in other people’s heads, even if at first they appear to do no harm.

“If anyone knocks at your door for help, do not open it lest you be struck down by the darkness!” Such “harmless” advice if we are not our brother’s keeper, eh?

As to whether the Church is a slackard for being prudent rather than rash, I will leave that judgment up to the wise and the learned.

sombody mentioned catholic planet a web site to be avoided. from memory it has set to many dates for the end

“no man knows the day or the hour” is a jewish feast called Feast of Trumpets / Rosh Hashanna.
google.ie/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCoQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FRosh_Hashanah&ei=ZoL6TeLTI8iAOuic5KsE&usg=AFQjCNFTj_KGCMI1LkTrFEeyW48JWj_GCw

The Feast of Trumpets happens on the “new moon”, which is 29.5 days after the last one, meaning it might occur on the 29th or 30th day, nobody knows for sure. “Of that day or hour no man knows” is an expression maybe referring to this feast.

it’s not just about a full moon apearing it also has to do with the first sighting of the full moon so nobody can know when it will be first sighted but God

Well, if you are around during the three days of darkness and something knocks, it might not be your brother.

If only the Church was not a slackard, there would be much more mercy? If only the Church would advise people to run out and purchased blessed candles then more people will be saved? Are these ideas “harmless” you suppose?

Candles must be 100% beeswax! Purchase them and then have your priest bless them along with copious amounts of salt and water. Blessed candles, Blessed salt and Holy water are 3 things a Catholic family should never be without!. Don’t forget to have small Crucifix’ over the doors on the outside of your house either.

It took 13 years and a change of Bishops before the Miracle of the Sun was declared “worthy of belief” by the Church. Saint Faustina’s Divine Mercy was condemned for nearly 50 years. In 1931 Saint Padre Pio was condemned by five different decrees coming from the Holy Office in Rome. These facts illustrate that when the Church does make a final decision on the 3-days of darkness, there is a slight probability that it might be past the point of usefulness.

In other words, if someone is at home and the 3-days of darkness actually occurs, and according to the writings of several Saints - no light works aside from blessed candles, it might be nice to know that you have some blessed candles in a drawer.

God Bless

I wonder if she means - looking out the window, or opening the window?
You can do a search on “3 days of darkness” and find a monthly thread on the topic. You can even see where you wrote extensively about this topic back on May 5th:

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=557228&highlight=days+of+darkness

.
:o wow… to be honest, I forget a lot of things I write about and threads tend to repeat.
Isn’t this a Protestant concept? What am I missing here?
no I don’t think it’s Protestant… maybe you mean the rapture? that is something else though 🙂

It seems like there are similarities to Sodom and Gomorrah and Lot’s wife being turned into a pillar of salt. I seems like the Angels of God might be wiping out all the evil in the world and we are not to look.

God Bless

That’s interesting. Is there a book “3 days of darkness” ? . … Saying prayers :crossrc:
