Hello again,

Dear brothers and sisters,

Please list your top three favorite things about the Church and a short explanation why you love them so:

my list -
  1. The worldwide visibility of the Church. I love how almost anywhere in the world the Catholic Church is present. It truly is the Universal Church.
  2. The unity of the faith. I love how the Church has over a BILLION members and they are all so unified. The Church really is ONE.
  3. The Charity of the Church. I love how much good the Church has done in the world. Can you even imagine a world without all the Catholic Charities, Catholic Hospitals, Catholic Schools, etc?
Thank you and may God bless us all

The Catholic Church started education, hospitals and charities many centuries ago. As well as so many other wonderful things. God Bless, Memaw

I like that the Catholic Church doesn’t change it’s doctrine. You know where you stand.

I really like Pope Francis. He is helping people take notice of Catholicism and Christianity in a more open and attentive way.

I like that there are adoration chapels. There are so few places in the USA today that are dedicated to worship.

Tradition, things like crucifixes, scapulars, Virgin Mary and Saints candles, rosaries. All distinctly show a Catholic identity.

Pax Christi!

The continuity of teachings is amazing.

The growing, changing traditions are so beautiful!

The accessibility, at least in much of the world, is great.

God bless.

The fact that is unchanging and does not suit modern movements based on the current “truths” of man instead of God

The universality of the Church

The transcendence of the Church and how we have Holy members of the church in heaven. Angels and Saints.

The truth She teaches. Unreal!!

Her beauty

The Saints She produces.

The infallible doctrines of faith.

The wisdom of the Saints She produced

Well those things actually pre-date Christianity. 🙂

At least education and hospitals do. Not sure about charities. 🙂

  1. The Eucharist because it is Jesus
  2. The Eucharist because it is Jesus
  3. The Eucharist because it is Jesus
-Tim-

  1. The certainty that we have the fullness of the Truth with all the means necessary for Eternal life.
  2. The Real Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
  3. The Sacrament of Confession with the assuredness of forgiveness. A true encounter with Jesus.
If we are allowed to say more than three:
  1. The Blessed Mother
  2. The Communion of Saints-everyone praying for each other to attain salvation and holiness. This includes canonized Saints who are always eager to help us.
  3. The fact the One, Holy, Roman Catholic Apostolic Church wrote the Bible through the
    inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
  4. The Seven Sacraments including Matrimony, elevating marriage to a sacrament.
  5. Many aids to holiness: Sacraments, Bible reading, Sacramentals: rosaries, crucifixes,
chaplets, novenas, holy water, oil, blessed salt, etc.
  6. Divine Mercy Devotion and Feast. My favorite.
  7. The fact we know about Purgatory and how to get out it. Same with hell.
We are truly blessed to be Catholics. Living God’s way can bring much peace and joy.

Great Post.

Hospitals is particularly Catholic. No houses or doctors existed really pre- Christianity.

Physicians really began in monasteries.

As to Charity, yes that is a Catholic thing. Read about how they struggled with pagans to make them understand the mere concept of charity.

And as to education, yes that pre dates Christianity, however I am not so sure about schools that educated the common man. I believe that is solely a Catholic thing.

Western monasticism, because without it, I doubt I’d still be Catholic, and I would be deprived of:
  1. The Eucharist because it is Jesus
  2. The Eucharist because it is Jesus
  3. The Eucharist because it is Jesus

The more I think about it, the more I can only answer Jesus.

Jesus is the thing I love about the Church. For me it is about Jesus. Everything centers on Jesus and revolves about Jesus and flows from Jesus and finds its root in Jesus… everything.

Mass and liturgy, scripture, the Eucharist, universality, sacraments, saints, doctrines, adoration… all have Jesus at the core.

The Catholic Church did not write the Bible. The Catholic Church determined the canon of scripture. The Old Testament existed before the Church.

I think he meant the Gospels and NT and you are right the Catholic canonized the NT. Otherwise we probably wouldn’t have a NT today but rather a mesh of Gnostic and inspired books and confusion everywhere.

The Church pre-dates the NT obviously not the Old Testament.

  1. Truth
  2. The Sacraments - real, tangible channels of God’s grace to each of us, personally.
  3. Unity with great diversity - as a member of an Eastern Church, I love that fact that I pray and think differently from Roman Catholics and even from other Eastern Catholics, but that does not affect our Communion with one another.

I love the Eucharist-having Our Lord with us, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity is a blessing unparalleled.
I love the universality-Our Church is Catholic- for all people through all time. A
t any time of any day someone is saying Mass and praying for our salvation. We are so blessed.
I love our saints who model ways to move ever closer to our Lord.
May God bless you and all who visit our thread.

I am just going to put the three things that I think of after Jesus that have personal meaning for me.
  1. The open welcome to sinners and lost sheep.
  2. Fortitude throughout the ages.
  3. The tender nurturing of souls.
There are so many things I could put down, but what sums it up for me is the certainty that I am precisely where God wants me to be.
