Hmm, perhaps he was just confused (is he a native English speaking priest)?

I remember in the ‘bad old days’ of the 1970s-90s that some well-intentioned liturgists went through the Mass settings and changed all the “He’s” (referring to Christ) TO the word “Christ”, as well as all the He’s referring to God or Father to simply ‘God’, and perhaps some of the older people didn’t get the memo that this is not really correct and should not (ever) be done.

No, it’s not correct. The actual words are given in the Missal and the priest is to follow them (except for the few places where valid options are given).

That being said, it is illicit but it doesn’t affect the Consecration or the Mass in any substantial way - except, perhaps, by driving people such as the good deacon to distraction.

The last time I checked, the Polish text has Christ as well. But the English unfortunately has the pronoun which priests are to follow. I say unfortunately because Him doesn’t properly reflect the much more intensive Latin pronoun “ipsum, ipso.” “Through Him Himself” would sound too weird.

The priest is saying the same thing with slightly different words in this case.
However the priest doesn’t have the right or power to change the words of the mass. Still, this seems a minor infraction, so if I heard this I wouldn’t be troubled by this.
A similar infraction I have disliked myself though is when the priest holds up the eucharist and says something besides “Behold the lamb of God…” so I understand how you feel. But I never made much of this in my own mind.

That’s interesting, since that Parish also has a Polish Mass.
