"thumbs up" Jesus statue?

I used to like the movie Dogma, but I’m tempted to throw it in the trash now. Even though I’m mature enough in my faith to watch it and not be swayed by false claims, it still says things that are absolutely contrary to the Truth, and that’s not ok. Buddy Jesus IS funny and lighthearted, showing another side of Jesus, but at the same time, the manner in which they come up with Buddy Jesus disrespects the significance of the Crucifixion.

I mean, it’s not the WORST movie to watch, but that doesn’t make it “kosher”.

Well, that’s not exactly how Jesus explained his relationship with us:
And the multitude sat about him; and they say to him: Behold thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. And answering them, he said: Who is my mother and my brethren? And looking round about on them who sat about him, he saith: Behold my mother and my brethren. For whosoever shall do the will of God, he is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

It’s not laughing at our faith or the Lord, but rather at our all-too-human tendency to want to, sometimes, try to remake Christ in our image.

I like the statue. I don’t see how it is disrespectful at all. He is smiling and pointing at you, giving a big “thumbs up” He has a big heart.

If a friend of mine did this to me it would bring joy and a sense of connection. I say friend because we all have a friend in Jesus. Would you honestly tell Jesus that he is not your friend? Really?

We don’t need comical representations of Jesus but ones that may cause those of other faiths to think " Hey that’s interesting, I’d like to find out more about Jesus," are ok. I think this one is not too far off.

The real problem with the film is that it is filled with profanity and sexual innuendo. It has been a few years since I’ve seen it, but it was pretty nasty.
