is selling sporting event tickets for more than face value morally wrong? What if done on ebay?

Yes, if done without the permission of the ticket issuer. I understand, however, there is a growing movement to give a percentage of that profit to the ticket issuer. The profit then would not be morally wrong.
 
I think it’s legal in some states, actually. It was put into place to large corporations wouldn’t buy up all the seats for an event and jack up the prices.

so someone educate me. What is the difference between auctioning something for the highest price you can get (ebay) and going out on the streets and selling a ticket for as much as someone will pay? :confused:

Many if not most of these tickets have the fine print to dissuade scalping. Punishable by law as well as being morally wrong. 🙂

Have you seen the new tickets available only online? Some of these aren’t even available till gametime. Try selling those on ebay.

Remember, the issuer of the ticket has the last say in the matter. If you don’t behave, for example, he can still escort you out. You don’t own the premises by simply having a ticket.
 
Scalping tickets is legal in Virginia. My roommate was a professional scalper for years and made a decent living at it, but it is work, which is why you have to pay them for their service.

If I want to sit front row for my favorite performer and am willing to spend the cash for it, scalpers provide me the service of being able to acquire that ticket. It is a service fee. Scalping tickets is as legitimate a job as any.
