Tickets for The Vatican 2013

I was planning to be in Rome next Easter so I wrote to The Vatican to ask if thee was any possibility of a place at one of the Ceremonies. The reply was yes. But not just for one Mass. I got a seat for the Chrism Mass, Good Friday Ceremonies, Easter Day Mass and additionally a ticket for a General Audience on the Wedneday of Holy Week. Wow!

I get married in about 8 weeks, and we will be attending a Papal Audience at the Vatican, as Newlyweds, during the Rome stage of our honeymoon! Exciting!

Our seats were confirmed via fax, by the Prefect of the Papal Household.

I was also interested in visiting St Peters tomb, but sadly we left that too late and missed our chance - demand had already filled up all the places for our dates! Next time!

However, there is still lots of other things to see - La Pieta and the Tombs of the last Stuart Kings of Scotland - for starters!

Cant wait!
 
Last time I went I was sure Peters tomb was just open and available u know the Popes tombs were. I didn’t know the kings of Scotland were buried there tell me more. It’s like another world isn’t it

Good for you OP. I’d also like to recommend a night tour of the Vatican Museum. Less crowded and a very special feeling. We did a tour guide deal. Everyone wore earphones and the guide spoke softly. You’ll learn a ton of insider stuff. Unique experience.

Pro tips (for you AND the OP):
  1. show up EARLY to the papal audience… I mean four or five hours early. The line starts that soon, and quickly approaches 5,000 people long. If you’re not there early, ticket or not you may not get in.
  2. the BEST seats for the Papal Audience are not the front row seats. No matter where you sit you will be at least 100 feet from the dias where the Pope speaks from (and there’s a section on the front reserved for special dignitaries). You want to sit as close to the front as you can… but where you ESPECIALLY want to be is RIGHT NEXT TO THE CENTER AISLE. This is another reason to get there early, as those seats will fill up FAST. The reason you want to be there? The pope will be driven through the crowd in the main aisles, and will probably pass within ten feet of you (great photo opportunity!)
  3. St Peter’s tomb may require special reservations for a guided tour, but it is open to everyone without any sort of reservation. You can still go in and see the tomb.
  4. Be sure to visit Santa Maria Sopra Minerva… a 15th C church built on top of a 3rd C church, built on top of an ancient pagan temple (and you can go down into all of the levels!). It’s a lesser known attraction, but VERY worth seeing… particularly the 3d century painting of St Clement in papal robes which are an exact match to what priests are wearing today.
  5. BE SURE to make reservations to visit the catacombs… you won’t be disappointed… but the catacombs REQUIRE a guided tour, so you can’t just show up and expect to go in. (incidently for the squeemish, the catacombs in Rome are so old that all of the bodies have decayed, so there are no human bones or decaying corpses inside like the Paris catacombs have)
  6. Be sure to check out Castel San Angelo as well… the papal castle (and connected to the vatican by a raised and fortified walkway… though you can’t walk it to get from point a to point b)
  7. Be sure to schedule a guided tour of the vatican museum and sistine chapel… these areas REQUIRE a tour, so you have to get a spot to see them.
  8. Go up in the vatican dome… it doesn’t require reservations and offers one of the best views of the city as well (along with Castel San Angelo)… plus it offers you a ceiling level view of the basilica San Pietro! Not for the faint of heart though, the upper staircase inside the dome is slanted so that you have to lean on the inner wall to get up the last few levels… but well worth the “if these bricks fall out I’m going to die” factor!
 
Last time I went to Rome I noticed that even the barely considered planter full of flowers outside our hotel was probably 500 years old. I can never spend long enough there. It’s so special for Catholics it’s almost primal
 
Congrats on the tickets! I’m going to Rome for the first time this Christmas, from Dec. 14th to 27th. I got tickets to the midnight Mass with the pope as well!

How did you get these tickets?
I am planning to go to Vatican during Easter and I would like to see if I can get seats to all mass.

I am going to Rome March of 2013 and I was wondering if someone could help me to know the way I can get tickest to all Easter Celebrations and Mass at the Vatican.
I am bringing my Mother and I would like to ensure we get seats timelly, before these are all out. Thanks

Thought to start checking ways to get mass seats ahead of time, but just have not been lucky enough to get them.

That is the full address. I asked for a ticket for any Easter ceremony and got tickets for everything
