Tie up broken brown scapular?

So I accidentally broke my brown scapular. :banghead: Can I just tie the broken end to the other side of the scapular so that it’s a bit shorter length?
 
Yes. They break easily . Be prepared to go through a few annually.

Yes, but sewing it would make it more difficult to come undone.
 
Yes I did this for years or sewed them back together. Funnily enough this one I currently wear has lasted a lot longer than the others.
 
IIRC, breaking any sacramental requires it to be blessed again when fixed.

Maybe an apologist can be so kind as to confirm this?

I don’t think this would be the case for these reasons:

Spiritual: the blessing is on the person and not on the object.
  • if otherwise, this would be akin to a kind of idol worship, because it would mean that the object was something more than an expression of devotion, and would therefore be treated in the manner of a superstition.
  • most if not all do not break them on purpose, so no breaking of a promise has been made.
Practical: people regularly break them and so there would not be enough priests for all the people lining up for broken sacramentals.
  • if the blessing was not on the person, and instead on the sacramental, if one broke and had to receive another blessing, the person would have to wait to continue with the devotion until able to receive another blessing on the object.

Just looked up to make sure…and scapulars differ to medals, in the area of blessings, apparently. New scapulars don’t even need to be blessed.

Actually, scapulars come under the same provisions as habits, which is why your memory is not correct on this point. You are in the wrong category of sacramental.
