This seems like a sensible move for Tebow. Being on television will keep his brand fresh, and prolong his potential as a speaker. Being directly involved with college football may also allow him to influence players.

It also is a sensible move for ESPN. They get a big name with a built in fan-base. Plus, during his college football career, Tebow played in the SEC, which will enhance his relevance for the network.

*ESPN issued a press release on Tuesday afternoon stating that Tim Tebow would be joining the SEC Network as a college football analyst for their pregame show “SEC Nation.”

In the release, Tebow made it clear this does not mean he is giving up on his dream of playing NFL football.

The SEC Network will launch in August, but Tebow will begin his duties for the Worldwide Leader starting January 6 in the network’s coverage of the BCS Championship game.*

In his new job, Tebow will be teamed up with veteran sports announcer Joe Tessitore.

The BCS championship game, on January 6th, features two southern teams playing against one another, so bringing Tebow in for the game is a good idea. It provides him a high-profile roll-out for his new line of work.

It almost seemed to me that some in the northeast would rather see their team lose than Tim Tebow succeed because of his Christianity and maybe even in part because of his Southern roots.

Oh please. Even Jacksonville won’t sign him. He’s not a good QB and he brings a media circus wherever he goes. Basically, he’s an obnoxious, underperforming, media sideshow, and that’s a liability. And let’s talk about his ego. He will ONLY play quarterback, and ONLY in the NFL. Entitlement?

There are LOTS of Christian players and many people from the south in the NFL.

Tim Tebow is not a goody two shoes like he portrays himself. And he is quite stubborn. He insists that he is a QB, which is the position all egomaniacs like to play, even though he can’t play one in the NFL. Instead of being used in a way that would keep him in the NFL, say as a TE, LB, or Special Teams gunner, he chooses to hold out.

And lets be honest. The only reason he was ever popular is because every woman in America wants to have his baby. He cares more about being in the spotlight than putting Jesus in the spotlight. That’s my opinion only, of course.

Doesn’t seem to hurt Phillip Rivers (who’s catholic and has a ton of kids :)). He isn’t a great QB. Trust me, if a person is a good enough QB, they can have almost any belief they want. Don’t get me wrong there is a bias against christians, but it doesn’t go that extreme.

I’m sure if Tim Tebow had a better career, any team would take him.

So he is in a long line of other great college players who did not have the proper skill set for the pro game. As it was he had the average career of a professional athlete, in fact having lead his team to a playoff victory a better then average career of a pro athlete. And with a playoff win he did better then many other Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks

After reaching the highest level of the Heisman trophy what great need is there to play semi pro or arena football, just to play football? Did James Brown need to continue playing because he could compete, or was that part of his life finished as he moved on? Some players retire at the top, others choose to stay on the bench their final years.

He did not play in the NFL this season. I don’t know if he hung up his cleats as much as his cleats were hung up for him.
So very true!

Living down south as we do, we’ve seen tons of coverage of him; my sense is that he is a pretty genuine guy who lives his beliefs. I don’t understand why he won’t consider playing another position; he is an excellent athlete, with speed and mobility. But, if being a QB is his dream, then it’s his decision to hold out for that; I don’t think it’s going to happen, as his mechanics are not suited to the NFL.

Wha?

When I think of egos, I think of Terrell Owens, Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson, Randy Moss, Ray Lewis, and even with older players, I think of Michael Irvin, Keyshawn Johnson, Deion Sanders.

Sure the average QB’s have pretty big egos relative to you or I, but compared to the NFL, they are usually outshined by even bigger divas.

I think the bottom line here is that Tebow is just not a good enough QB to play in the NFL. If he would rather sit than play TE that is his choice and preference and should not be directly related to his ego. I would rather bowhunt during the rut than rifle hunt in late November. That’s my choice and preference. I think the real ego’s belong to the people that want him to play a different position regardless of his choices just because they want to see him play football on Sunday.

Tebow and his dad may be Christians, but they are not Catholic and do not see Catholics as Christians.

As I type Tebow Sr. is busy in the Phillipines converting the Catholics to Baptist ‘Christianity’.

Politics have made for strange bedfellows in this case. I was raised in the south and there is little "christian’ about it. Unless you consider racism, hatred, and self centered lack of concern for others ‘christian’.

I love Tebow. And I think he would be a great QB. He has said he still wants to play in the NFL and His ESPN contract addresses that.

I am always stunned by the hatred of him. Here we have a guy who CAN play QB at the Highest level. In fact he has. And he has done it better than say Orton. Etc. His playoff record is 500 as a Bronco which is 1 game better than Manning as I type this. It is certainly his right to want to play a certain position, a position which he has studied and played for his career.

I have wondered about Jville. Why did they not sign him? They are a bad team that is WAY more than a 1st round QB away from any type of sucess. And as an owner, if you had Tebow your fans would fill the stadium, as it is now Jacksonville has unsold seats and fans that are sick of losing.

I’m no owner but if I were I would sign Tebow, rake in the dough from fans and merchandise and enjoy the freedom from the pressure to win enough to draft well and early for the next couple of years.🤷

Personally I think a tebow ran offense with the right personnel would be very successful in the NFL. BUT that is a franchise risk. You would have to draft players for an experimental offense and if it did not work you would be out of luck. But team seem to have been doing this lately. The eagles Hired Chip Kelly on a risk of a newer offense.

As for the criticism that he cannot play QB. That is silly. No one on here could name the QBs for 16 of the 32 teams in the NFL. Not only that but he IS better than say, Orton, who had a job last I checked. And the countless backup QBs on the teams.

None of this is Tims fault. He is a media circus. And the last thing it is acceptable to discriminate against. An Outspoken CHristian!

Perhaps duck dynasty could use him?🤷

IF you are an perennial Bottom feeder why not give him a gig? Fans are happy, players would be led and motivated by a QB that is not under investigation for rape. What is the worst that could happen? He loses? Something tells me that is what people would hope for and the “worst” that would happen would be he won.

As for Denver. I have very much enjoyed them this year and last. Manning is a stud. We all love an older QB completely smashing it. But the bottom line is that they need to at least go to the SB this year or all of this manning stuff is nice for 16 games but no dice when it matters. I root for denver and manning, but a couple of early exits from the playoffs and you might start to hear some chants from the stands that Elway will not like…

I could name the QB and head coach for every team in the league, but I’m not sure that’s something I should brag about. 😉

Here’s the thing, no owner, manager, or head coach wants to take a chance on a kid who can’t throw, refuses to play another position, and was named Forbes’ most influential athlete in the country as a backup quarterback. This would be especially true for Jacksonville. Even if all they needed was a QB, Tebow would be a bad choice. But right now they need new everything, and bringing Tebow in would not improve their record much, but it would certainly put them front and center in the media as they were losing.

As far as Denver goes, watch the old games, look at the numbers, consider who he was playing with. He did not make Denver win, they won in spite of him. (Also, more recently, did you watch him play in the preseason for the Pats? Yikes! He looked bad.)

Honestly, the best thing he could do right now is take Kurt Warner’s advice and play in a minor or foreign league. He needs to get snaps and improve his arm. Right now, his throwing motion is very off, and you just cannot play college ball on an NFL field for more than one season. Once the other teams figure it out, you’re beaten. If he’s really good enough for the NFL, then he needs to put his head down and prove it, either by excelling at another position or going to work on himself in another league and coming back in a couple of years. But being so stubborn and constantly taking his “plight” to the media rather than working is not making any team want to hire him.

And I’ll never buy the whole ‘Christian persecution’ thing when it comes to Tebow. The NFL has many, many religious players, and many who are vocal about it and go so far as to pray during games. The difference is that they are also capable of doing their jobs rather than trying to build a professional athletic career around being religious.

yeah, this argument has played out on sports TV and radio for the 2 years prior to this one. 8-6 as a starter is better than most NFL Qbs ever do. And as for “playing another position” well that is silly. Johnny Manziel (football) will not be asked to play another position no matter what his skills are in the NFL. In fact most QBs are not asked to play another position. Why would you? QB is the most labor intensive position. You want tim to play punter?

Stats are something for fantasy nerds and radio blowhards to throw out. Fact is that a QB on a running team will have lower stats than one on a pass happy team. An option QB or triple option QB will not be breaking any passing stats. The only stat that matters is Win Loss. And in that he is better than most Qbs.

Either way you have a two time national champion, heisman winner, NFL winning QB who is unconventional and would sell out ANY stadium.

You are right, he is not the only CHristian in the NFL, but he is the most outspoken one. And believe it or not that is not accepted in our society. Faith should stay in the locker room at most. Leave it at Church. If we hear it in an interview, we look down on it.

You are delusional if you think his faith and background is not part of this problem. It plays more of a role than his “stats” I’ll tell you that.

I played the game, I played in college. I have friends that play in the NFL. And Tim. Well, Tim got a raw deal. And Tim can play QB. Better than most.

Quite a testament to his character actually. There is no bitterness, no pot shots, no nothing. Except a desire to play QB in the league that lets felons have losing records:shrug: Other QBs tend to take things more personally. He has been nothing but class.

As for the naming of QBs and coaches. Well there is no way to prove that in this forum. But I live and breathe football. I have Sunday ticket and about 5 fantasy leagues. I have friends I speak with on a weekly basis on several teams. And I cannot name 16 of the 32 starting QBs off the top of my head. Especially once injuries get figured into the mix.

Coaches, well that is a little easier. But still no where near 32.

All I am saying is a league that give Ponder a call, ought to have a spot for tebow on a roster.

The leauge does not have 32 better Qbs than Tebow, let alone 64! But his faith and his fans are his downfall. His faith is why you don’t want him starting, and his fans are why you don’t want him as a backup.

The best thing that COULD have happened for Tim, would have been if Manning had been confident enough to mentor and teach him. You would think if anyone could have been immune from the tebow birds in the stands it would have been manning. But he made it very clear that was not a distraction he wanted.

Last month, an Italian team offered him a $200,000 contract to play as quarterback from March to July. Granted, their stadium only seats 8,000 and its the largest in the league. But he could complete a season there before the US season begins.

Yeah, but when he refused to play goalie people would accuse him of being egotistical.😃

But on the plus side, maybe the Pope would convert him after a game.

Football is all about money. Most teams would sign a serial killer if they thought they could win and make money with him playing. The fact that no team in the entire league is willing to sign Tebow speaks volumes about his ability to adapt to NFL football.

I would trust that these coaches and scouts have a much deeper insight into “talent” for the NFL then all the couch potato fans, not that its bad being a couch potato fan! 👍
