If the “missionaries” stayed within the realm of religion that would not be necessary.
But they don’t.
Stealing money from trusting people to line thier pockets can be considered in matters of deportation. As can dabbling into politics, which they do as well.
Are we suggesting that Bon Tebow Is stealing from people?

IA Portuguese nun told me that she perceives American Christian faith as one that was built on alot of material goods…God always helps us out materially…but where will the faith be when that material world collapses…I think of those more of the prosperity bent…
Exactly.
👍

I had mentioned harassment in an earlier post in this thread and was told there was no such thing going on. Unfortunately, that attitude has changed. I’m not sure why there is such hardness in one’s heart against other Christians but I am praying for you.
I’m not sure why there is hardness in the hearts of some Protestants when it comes to Catholics. It hurts me deeply when I’m told I’m not a Christian, that I’m not saved, that I don’t have a personal relationship with Christ, that my Baptism didn’t count…I also pray for the people that condemn me and my faith.

Peace be with you

I suggest you follow the flow of conversation.
Lets see the thread is about Bob Tebow ministries. Someone suggested we write the Filipino government about their disrespect toward the Catholic culture, etc. When another poster said they were free to evangelize since the country has religious freedom, someone else said that missionaries can be deported for questionable activities such as stealing money. I was asking if they believed Bob Tebow’s ministry was stealing. What did I fail to follow?

Some Catholics are guilty of the same against Protestants unfortunately. It’s sad that Christians fail to support and respect each other at times, 😦

Well the emails giving the Philippines immigration service advice are coming from Arizona. Perhaps not as bad as being from Iowa like the National Guardsmen who fought the war there I do admit

I remembering hearing a fundamentalist (Independent, Fundamental Baptist) missionary to Canada in the church I attended back then. He recounted how hard it was to get his congregation to celebrate the Forth of July.😃

The real sad part is that you are a Christian, you are being saved, you have an intimate relationship with Christ, your Baptism does count…and you have faith…that Protestants deem to be so necessary…and the one that taunt you are saying not as we see it…kind of sad when the OHCAC is the game, has the rules, has the history and they took a ball with new rules and no history.

What do you think of Manny Pacquiao then who wears a rosary on his neck, prays on his corner before and after the match, and** also makes a sign of the cross before and after the match**?
I am not Mark but I can say Manny is…a devout Filipino Roman Catholic who is no different with a Pinoy who passes by a Catholic church and do the sigh of the cross even if he is inside a public transportation or a Pinoy who crosses himself when he dines out with his family even if they are inside an expensive restaurant.

Devout Filipino Catholics has a way making the sign of the cross. Some do it the “Big way, some goes for the fast concealed one (it goes on all directions around the face), still others cross themselves multiple times, as long as it helps them warm up to God, then why not?

I don’t think they are bragging at all. It is something spontaneous, in grained on Filipino psyche. A habit that Filipinos do when they acknowledge God, the Catholic way. In fact, I really find it hard to pray without doing the sign of the cross myself. I do it even when I am around Baptists.

Doing the sign of the cross, is a statement of my Catholic faith.

Sadly it is the same type of declaration the protestant missionaries used and still using in luring unsuspecting Filipino Catholics, “flee from the harlot of Babylon” are almost always part of the indoctrination program.

It also doesn’t help when the country’s national hero is an ardent critic of the Catholic Church. A problem that has always been utilized by leftist of today when the Catholic church delves with Philippine state affairs.

The Bob Tebow, Pat Robertson, Eli Soriano, Felix Manalo, et al. take advantage of these problems being faced by the Filipino Catholic church . It is easy to persuade gullible people when you use fear.

Many People want to convert Catholic’s. But a true Catholic will never leave the CC.
Yup often times they will wander, question the faith but in the long run they always stay and turn out to become devout defenders of the Catholic faith.

Unfortunately the former are generally Catholics themselves. Some activists (crazy they may be in their own right) go as far as to say that they’ll put you on an extra-judicial hit-list for talking too much.

Ah my country, you are officially the Mexico of Southeast Asia.
One of the tragedies is that people who are on the outside looking in do not understand the Phillipines. I have been there many times. In many parts of the world like the People’s Republic for instance there is not that instant welcome…In the Phillipines people are open, smiling, happy, and it does not matter what strata of society you encounter there you are welcome with open arms. There is genuine welcome from all and that is what Tebow is taking advantage of…Smoky mountain is the dump in Manila where people live and visitng Smoky Mountain, the people there are in a desparate situation and yet there is joy in their eyes…

But is he taking advantage in his view or helping? I know he is misguided as he lacks full understanding of Truth, but there is a difference between being sincere and misguided and taking advantage of people. I don’t believe there is any evidence of The Tebow ministry stealing from people or anything, just evangelizing to a church without fullness of Truth.

Unfortunately one of the reasons many evangelicals consider Catholics to be uninformed about the Gospel is that many people publicly identify themselves as Catholics who do not practice or have good understanding of their faith. My husband’s family is Italian Anerican and all are quick to identify themselves as Catholic, have their kids baptized, etc. but almost none of them have any understanding of their Faith and most of them only go to Church for baptisms, weddings, etc. I doubt any of them could name the apostles, tell you what John 3:16 says, tell you what books are in the old vs. New Testament, etc. Many of them are pro-choice. Let’s face it, the kind of knowledgeable, committed Catholics you find on CAF arent always the kind of Catholics you encounter in real life. So if you’ve mostly met Nancy Pelosi type Catholics or just the run of the mill poorly catechized type like many of my relatives, who couldn’t defend their beliefs if their life depended on it, is it hard to think you would believe that Catholics aren’t “saved” and haven’t really been exposed to the Gospel?

Great posts!

As the atheists are working to take down the cross in our country, we need to go back to the custom of not only making the sign of the cross before meals in public, but to put the cross back up on our persons…doesn’t need to be very big…or a tiny pin on outside of shirt/blouse…

And we should remember to make the sign of the cross everytime we pass a church with the tabernacle of the Heart of Jesus…waiting for us…

I couldn’t agree more! Sadly, many Catholics also misrepresent our true beliefs. “It’s okay for me to get drunk on Saturday night, I’m Catholic. All I need to do is go to confession” In the area I live, that’s how we’re labeled. We sin all we want, confess, then continue to commit the same sins because we can just go to confession! :eek:That’s what the Protestants here thrive on. Forget the devout Catholics. Forget that all religions are full of sinners. One thing I don’t here Prots do though, is brag about their sins like some Catholics do.They keep their sins a secret by committing them in other towns and keeping their mouths shut! I do my best to explain that it is NOT the teaching of the CC that getting drunk is okay. That over indulgence in ANYTHING is a sin. It falls on deaf ears. They believe what they see and hear. They’ve never read the Catechism.

Thank you for the reminder about the sign of the cross when we pass a church. I also agree that 'outward signs" are an excellent way to show your faith without getting into someone’s face or space. I try always to wear a Crucifix–although some don’t know the distinction at least they know I’m a Christian. Plus it helps ME to always be aware that I represent my faith in everything I do.

Quite honestly I’ve had several people approach me, ask me where I attend Mass and some of them have subsequently come to Mass at our Parish.

We can’t stop others from making false statements about Catholicism but we can always speak and live the Truth.

Lisa

Thanks, Lisa…the secular atheists are forming a grace in me to be more outward in the Sign of the Cross, of putting up the cross …this time not in public places, but around our necks!

And to go back to the old custom of making the sign of the cross when passing the tabernacle where Christ is present in the tabernacles.
