Tim Tebow's dad wants to convert Catholics in the Philippines?

Oops.😊 Sorry. I just googled him quickly and it said “christian apologist”…sorry.

😊😊

I see now that QuickCat’s post is just another example of someone taking words out of context…and I fell right for it.

Oh brother.😊
QC is a hit and run poster. He/she avoids banning by apparently only posting a few times a month.

Peter Kreeft is a Catholic apologist. However, what Mr Kreeft means by ‘not hearing the Gospel’ is entirely different from what Bob Tebow means. The former refers to poor catechesis. The latter insinuates that Catholics are not Christians. QuickCat is using Peter Kreeft’s words to excuse Bob Tebow’s, and I believe that may be where you were confused. 🙂
Filli Dei—

I think I’ve read this whole thread. And I read all the newsletters, in their entirety, from Bob Tebow’s group that someone posted a link to.

From the evidence we have, how are you so sure of exactly what Bob Tebow means? People here have been interpreting the limited evidence we do have in various ways. What we really need is to hear from someone directly involved with Bob Tebow. Until then, full judgment must be held at bay, and we need to do that in charity.

**Of the 86 million Filipinos, we estimate that over 65 million have never once heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. **
To quote a question I heard many times in many adult Sunday Schools across many evangelical churches:
What is your interpretation of that quote (verse)?

Peter Kreeft remarks that “Many Catholics do not know the gospel.” He is speaking of the gospel that saves us - 1 Cor. 15:1-4. Every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ is an ambassador - 2 Cor. 5:16-21. Tim Tebow is a wonderful ambassador for his Lord and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
JustaServant—

You quoted this post from QuickCat in the post I responded to from you.

Because they beleive only evangelical churches preach the ‘real’ gospel.

That’s entirely true. For one, nobody has disputed my hypothesis that he failed arithmetic. 😃

I’m not sure when those numbers (86 million Filipinos) were compiled, but the CIA World Factbook shows a larger population. It also shows only 2.8% Evangelical. So Mr. Tebow has his work cut out for him.

cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/rp.html
Religions:
Catholic 82.9% (Roman Catholic 80.9%, Aglipayan 2%), Muslim 5%, Evangelical 2.8%, Iglesia ni Kristo 2.3%, other Christian 4.5%, other 1.8%, unspecified 0.6%, none 0.1% (2000 census)
Population:
101,833,938 (July 2011 est.)
country comparison to the world: 12

JustaServant—

I don’t know what he means. He might mean a number of things, and to know for sure, we should try again to contact Bob Tebow’s organization.

I’ve had Catholic friends since early on in my life as a Christian, and I’ve read many Catholic authors for a long time. However, I’ve also known Catholics that went to Catholic schools that were so poorly catechized, that they truly had no understanding of the gospel. It would be fair to say they had never heard it, though I know Bible reading is done in every Mass. It baffled me that they could be there at Mass every week and still have no clue what they were doing there.

Given this quote:
26,675 (64%) of them have no evangelical church of any kind.
It doesn’t sound like he will encourage them to return to the Catholic Church.
Is he really there to make nominal Catholics better Catholics?

Since he’s not Catholic, he probably doesn’t see any reason why they should return to the CC. I’m not saying I agree with him. With those Catholic-raised and Catholic-educated people that I knew, I did encourage them to return to the churches they knew.

To repeat myself, we need to hear from the subject of this trial in order to know what Bob Tebow means. He may very well be guilty, but we need to hear from him or someone representing him. Otherwise, we’re all just going by our own interpretations.

AWM, I gotta get back to work, so I will just give you the bottom line whether you want to admit it publically or not, and no amount of mental gymnastics can overcome it.

THE 800 POUND GORILLA IN THE ROOM:
  1. Tom Tebow does not beleive the Catholic Church preaches the Gospel.
2.He does not believe Catholics are ‘saved’.
  2. He wants more evangelical/fundamentalist churches in the Philippines because he beleives that is the only place they will ever hear the Gospel.
…now give the gorilla a banana, he likes the acknowledgment.
😉

Hmm…how about a rendition of “Yes, We Have No Bananas”? I have some really good apples, though.

Reserving judgment is not mental gymnastics, JustaServant. You are making assumptions that go beyond the actual facts in regards to your 1-2-3. Your assumptions may well be correct, because some fundamentalist Baptists do believe your 1-2-3. However, I believe a representative of the Southern Baptist Convention signed the document “Evangelicals and Catholics Together” which I posted earlier on CAF, which denies your 1-2-3.

Again, we need to hear from the organization on trial here.

Thanks (name removed by moderator). If we don’t hear soon, I’ll email, too. I know other posters did before, but maybe they’ll respond better to numerous requests for a statement and clarification.

Okay, (name removed by moderator).

No, that was not the sentiment underlying my post at all. I can understand this is a sensitive topic. But, again, no, that was not in any way the intention of my post.
