One more thought about religion. We can no longer refer to religion in the singular. There are thousands of Christian religions plus all the religions which are not Christian and all are not clones of each other. There are other activities which take on the appearance of some goal orientated religions. The write up on the website is by the author Matthew Fox :
I’m wondering in what way is religion needed in peoples lives. A lot of people no longer attend churches, free thinking for the individual seems to have become stronger over the years.
Declaring oneself as a believer in a higher power, which can be God for some, or the universe for others, but not declaring that one is subject to the hierarchy, which Fox seems to be talking about.
To ask in what way is religion needed in peoples lives, one has to first determine which religion. Religion usually involves some kind of person which appears dominant and some kind of activity required of the religious person. Because of that variety, it is better to be precise when thinking about “religion.”
One can use the Catholic religion since this is a Catholic website. Is the Catholic religion important in people’s lives? If yes, how is it important? If not, what is the person losing?
