You know what kills me?
I was once very, very sick with cancer, and for many years had no immune system for all practical intents and purposes. I understood that it was
my burden that I could not socialize with friends, hang out at the mall, or attend social functions, because I was sick. It would be impractical, and rude, for me to have asked everyone before attending an event, to not go if there’s any remote possibility they’ve been around a sick person.
It is not the world’s job to cater to me. I understood this, and I was young when this happened: I was deprived of quite a bit.
Now there’s all this talk of fragrance-free masses… and I can relate: I can. You are also excused from mass, and can receive communion at home. Mass is a nicety - the point is not the music, the people, the style of dress… the point is to receive our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. So while I understand that you would certainly like to attend mass, I also know that you don’t
need to. I’m sorry if it’s not enough for you to receive Christ in the Blessed Sacrament… but that’s a whole different matter entirely.
