I have been doing a great job of taking care of my senior parents. My two sisters just talk behind my back about me and don’t help out at all with my parents. My brother has decided to leave town for two months knowing that my senior dad is seriously ill and bed bound.
Well… yesterday was the day that I have decided to do a time-out from my family members. I called one sister and told her to tell Mom that I am not talking to her or any family member for a whole month.
I volunteered to take care of dad so my sister could take Mom out for the day. I told them to return by 8:30P.M. They were out from 11a.m. They showed up real late at 10:30P.M. with no excuses. I had made it clear that they had to return early. I called my sister three times on her cell phone and she would not pick up the phone.
I now plan to let my sister take over the care of my parents’s needs.
I have already set the foundation for caring for my parents. I pay for Meals on Wheels for them. I hired a cleaning lady and a nurse care person for my dad to wash him up and make sure he is okay.
MOM is in the habit of calling me up every day with her phony illnesses but will not see the doctor. She doesn’t want my dad in a home either. Every day I have listened to her and visited them and taken things that they need.
I a truly tired and need a break from them. My condo is a mess because I have been devoting all my time to my parents and I truly enjoyed helping them. But I think it is now my sisters and brother turn to help out.
I am just venting. I plan to start taking care of me. I am 68yrs old I am the oldest in my family and I am visually impaired in one eye. I don’t like to drive at night. My dad is 95yrs.old.
I plan to keep in touch with the nurse so he can tell me how my dad is doing. If my dad should seriously become ill my mom just calls 911. She knows how to handle any problem. I just try to make life easy on her but she doesn’t really appreciates my help. She criticises me behind my back and is ot loyal to me. She has always been that way with all of us family members.
I think TIME-OUT is a great idea. Luci
