But prayer is no substitute for the virtue of prudence. Prayer guides prudence.
Oh, not so…there is no substiture for prayer…even the most righteous cannot forsake prayer. If this were so, the saints would not lift their prayers to God.
I never said to stop praying. There is no substitute for prayer, but prayer is not a substitute for other things. Prayer guides us towards the virtues, but we then put them into practice (while still praying).

I was married for many years. I was spiritual but wasn’t going to church at all. Then one day I had a “religious experience” that changed my life. I tried to share with my husband but it wasn’t working. My friend said something that at the time shocked me. She said: “Maybe your spiritual path is different from his?” I dismissed her words then. Looking back at it several years later and divorced, I can see she was right. My life is so different now from everything he and I had, and while I don’t stay in any connection with him, I know of what’s going on in his life, and that our paths are so different now we might as well be at the opposite ends of the world. Go with your heart. I wouldn’t marry someone who is not your soulmate. I’d rather stay single.
