Many times I’ve read a story about a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Someone asked the husband how they were able to be married so long. He said that whenever he got angry at his wife, he would go in the bathroom, look in the mirror and say, “well, you’re no prize either!”

  1. Love your spouse more than anyone else in the world, second only to God. (Yes, above children, your parents/siblings, and yourself.)
  2. Read “The Four Loves”. Remember that Eros, which is likely highly influencing you now, makes grand and glorious promises–and means them!–but he cannot keep those promises. You need Agape to do that. Choose to love your spouse every single.
  3. Never lie. Period. About ANYTHING. Lies and deceit can creep and poison a marriage. Just don’t do it. Ever.
Fifteen years married, got married when we were both 22, and we have “that” marriage, the one about which all our friends say, “Well, you can’t expect a relationship like Sillara and her husband have. Nobody gets that.”

😃

I was young too! We are just shy of 4 yrs now!

I think it’s been said, but remember that you TWO are a family now- each other will come before your parents/family or IL family. It’s ok to say you need to discuss something with your DH.

I think what REALLY helped us was living 4 hours from any family- we were forced to be independent, and lean on each other to solve problems :D.

Getting married in 6 months…little hesitant! Young 21 year old! Any advice or unforeseen circumstances you’d like to share I’m all ears 😉
Get a book or two on negotiating and offering feedback constructively. If you can’t solve a problem between the two of you, mediation is quite successful. Avoid lawyers like the plague. Above all, don’t marry one.
