We’re expecting our baby in just over 7weeks, any advice for us on the last few weeks of this journey? We’re first time parents so a little nervous
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
This is the best advice. Hard to do, once you’re into double digits on the pillows, but worth every wink.Sleep as much as you can!
Wow! 7 1/2 to 8 months?! I wonder why, since the Universal Church says within a few weeks. I figure we will do it sometime between 4 and 8 weeks (since it is flu season; maybe earlier if I feel confident about it!) …have already discussed with our parish priest. But we are not required to take a class (I’m one of the catechists and our chosen godparents have religious vocations).Oooh congratulations!
My husband and I are expecting our first in ~17 weeks, give or take a bit.
We currently have almost nothing! We have a crib, but no mattress. A high chair, a stroller, and about 10 outfits (ranging in size from newborn to 6-9 months). I know my MIL, my office, and my grandma will be throwing showers, so I hate to buy extra things now, but I hate not being prepared yet!
I even called the church about Baptism classes, but apparently they recommend those around 7.5 to 8 months! More waiting!
What refreshing, good advice! So unlike those that subtly undermine women who see breast feeding as the only option! If you plan on breastfeeding your baby, don’t feel bad if you have a tough time getting it all started. Yes it is natural, but giving birth does not mean you suddenly know how to do everything correctly. Don’t feel ashamed if you need help with the nursing process— make use of a lactation consultant, or your local Le Leche group. There is a lot of support out there for new moms and their babies to help you establish a strong breastfeeding habit. And if it is hurting you or causing you to bleed, please don’t give it up! It just means the baby is not latching correctly, and they can help you with that.
My daughter and I struggled greatly at first, because I could not get her to latch on properly. I had a friend laugh at me, and she said “This isn’t complicated! It’s natural!!” It was the most unhelpful thing anybody could have said to me. But I personally refused to give formula, so we simply HAD to figure it out. And after some struggle and some pain and some frustration, we got there.
Good luck!!
I would definitely recommend researching labor and delivery if you haven’t already. A recent review of obstetrics found that 3/4 of standard obstetrical practices are not based on good evidence. A lot of things will just happen as standard but you may want to speak up and opt for something different. Congrats on your baby! Don’t worry about not having the right stuff already. All a newborn really needs is a mommy (and mommy needs supportive helpers!).
