Tips for receiving Communion on the Tongue

That’s true. Only a priest is allowed to give Holy Communion by intinction, and he is required to use the proper vessel for it - he can’t just use the regular ciborium and chalice to do that.

Normally, Catholics don’t receive by intinction, because there are not enough priests at the present time to make it work, and the extra vessels would be expensive.

Wow. Thank you guys. I’m going to see my Priest anyway next Saturday and I will tell him what I learned on here. I will also print out that picture just so he will know what I mean.

So coincidentally, not long after I made that post, I was invited by some friends to go to the parish I was talking about for Mass today. So I got to receive by intinction for the first time! Loved it, wish I could experience it more. and yes they used that little set.

If only the priest was doing this, then it is in accord with the instruction from the Vatican.

So a deacon can’t do this (there’s no deacon at that parish, just wondering)?

The instruction says “priests” but I presume it also includes Bishops. Since Deacons are ordinary ministers of communion, it would stand to reason that they can, but I don’t know for sure - the Deacon would have to check with his Bishop, I think.

He’s my confessor also and we always discuss things and rules in the confessional, we start talking about what I believe was wrong of me to do, then we get to the catechism, from there to canon so and so and from there to exception and paragraph so and so, and from there back to my sin, lol. So yeah he’s receptive and very knowledgable also

The hardest thing about receiving on the tongue is running into a priest who doesn’t want to give you time to say “Amen” before he literally tries to ram the host in your mouth, and then gets angry with you when you don’t say “Amen.” Yes. Had that happen to me before.

Other than that? More sanitary than receiving in the hand. There are other reasons to receive on the tongue, but mentioning them will get this thread locked.

I think it’s more sanitary too…at school masses I’m not sure if I would want to take the body of Christ in my hands after they have been holding and shaking little third grade hands a few minutes before! I love my precious third graders but I can almost see the germs crawling on them.
