I am tired of being flagged by those on this forum who do not care for my opinion on subjects.
A forum is an exchange of ideas and opinions. This is America. Freedom of expression, etc. We need to be able to talk to one another.
As long as a poster does not attack another poster or use profanity in a posting, I do not believe they should be flagged.

So am I. Not that I’ve ever been flagged before (thank God for that, though maybe I am going to end up jinxing it and this post will be the first), but I’m tired on behalf of all the CAF posters like you who haven’t really done anything wrong on this forum. The persistent flagging has even pushed some beyond their limit that they don’t use CAF anymore.

Some people are just flag-happy and like what they agree to and flag what they don’t.

Well, I’m not American, but I see what you are getting across.
We need to be able to talk to one another.
I think the purpose of the forum has gone over the heads of some. For all we know (unless we’re moderators), it could very well be done by 1-10 super-active individuals who see the flag function as a heroic, righteous act.

Which is what flagging is and always has been for. Same with other inappropriate content.
I do not believe some should be flagged.
Neither do I.

i was just flagged and have no idea why. i removed the post just because I did not want to offend.

i believe the exact part of the post being flagged should be highlighted. i believe flagging is sometimes used as a tool to silence the opposition. the flagger should also be named. i believe we would see less if it wasn’t anonymous.

That alone would dissuade a significant number of flaggers. The problem, though would then be that they could end up highlighting the whole post.

That seems to make a lot of sense.

As a pretty new member, this isn’t the first or second thread I’ve seen on flagging & deleted posts. Seems touchy.

This is an internet forum. We abide by the rules of our gracious hosts. As Americans or Brits or Canadians or Russians or Polynesians, we are free to go post elsewhere.

We all agree to the Forum Rules when we sign up, they cover more than profanity and personal attacks.

The forum reaches a global audience. Rules on the forum are not those of one government but of one Apostolate. We agree to their rules on using the forum.

I do agree the flagging system is being abused. Some rules of it could be tweaked. A moderator is not required to remove a post flagged as off topic, the system does that itself, for example. How can the system judge if the post is off topic. This feature has great potential to be abused if a few people get together and start flagging as off topic. I have had posts removed as ‘off topic’. The message I got was ‘system has removed x post as off topic’ , Even when that post was on topic!

Flagging is not voting. Posts are removed because the mods agree that something is offensive, not that your opinion differs. I have said it before: many people get flagged and then say they did nothing wrong. In fact, they just don’t realize they do offend people. Not with their differing opinion, but in the manner they present their opinion.

TLL, though I love your posts, I respectfully disagree with your here. (Hopefully, I will not be flagged.)
I have been flagged many times on CAF for only expressing an opinion.
CAF needs to change their “rules” to say personal attacks, profanity, and any opinions people here do not agree with will be grounds for flagging. I have had my accounted suspended several times for the same reason.
I am a cradle Catholic and I love the Church, but I am opinionated.
I have been attacked on posts. I have been called stupid and ignorant, and those people have not been flagged. Perhaps the rules are just not applied equally?

I have learnt a lot about human communication skills on CAF, how to be much clearer and how to say things in better charity.

I sometimes stop now in real life and think, hmm would I be flagged for this on CAF. 🙂

I would like to believe that you are correct in what you have stated, but on several occasions, I have expressed an opinion. No snarky reply or use of any words that would be offensive.
Yet flagged.

Here at CAF, there are two main lines of thinking: WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) and WIGFFT (Would I Get Flagged For This). Granted, flagging is always unpredictable.

This is pure genius. I second this, and I’m calling for a torches and pitchforks mob to sack the current flagging system. 🔥🔥🔱🔱🍻

We strive to live lives that mirror Christ in every way. WWJDo, think, say, act, be.
