I don’t know if anyone here watches RWBY, but its more of a priceable of storytelling
  1. I get the reasons FOR character deaths like Pyrrha, Achilles, Romeo and Julliet, but I am sick of that happening to them, its like people think thats all what they are good for, like a happy ending where they all live is some sort of ‘contamination’ to their ‘saintliness’
  2. I get the whole moving on message
  3. I get conflict, sacrifice, tragedy, life has ups/downs I lived through that, I lost 3 people in high school in the same year(my beloved dog Jessie, my Grandfather, and My cousin) and it was hard moving on from that, I didn’t need it shoved in my face again, it does not help at all it just makes me feel like that fiction is no longer an escape or comfort
4.Im sure I’m not the only way who feels this and tired of accepting every time something like this happens and wants it to be different, and tired of people telling them their version is fake/not allowed to be followed because its not ‘official’ or ‘canon’ or its spitting on someone’s work even though it is done in a way that respects their characters and make them more than what they were, and Im tired of everyone speaking so high of their opinions that others are too scared to tell theirs
  1. Im tired of the ‘take it or leave it’ response or ‘get over it’ compromise, it would be easy if so many shows like RWBY didn’t end like this
Let me explain

Portgas D. Ace: Alright, he had a good long run at didn’t seem the guy who wanted to settle like that

Major Huges: Okay, he was married, had a few kids, okay he fulfilled his desires and wen’t out like a true soldier

Balefire from Once Upon A Time:…Okay…well he at least left Emma with a good dude, Hook is pretty chill

Achilles from ancient myth: Okay….getting a bit tired now

Romeo and Juliet: Okay.

Hamlet: OKAY.

Nimue from Merlin: OKAY!

Kamina and Nia from Current Laggan:OKAY!

Penny: OKAY! YOU CAN STOP NOW!

Yang gets her arm sliced: OKAY I GET THE POINT!

Pyrrha: NO. NO. THATS NOT OKAY, NOT IN A FUNNY DENIAL WAY, LIKE FOUL, FOUL, I CALL FOUL. TOO EARLY AT LEAST.

This is my problem, characters like them, Nice powerful inspiring characters who should have happy endings NEVER get their happily ever afters but instead play the sacrificial lamb, and those around them have heartbreak. Every show it happens again, and again, and again, and nothing. ever. changes.

And on RWBY wiki discussion board oh boy did they rip me a new one, and then with the letter from Shane…Really I just do not know what to believe in now, and Shane said Monty had some wacky and crazy but fun ideas a revival for Pyrrha in a well executed manner for a plot twist could have been in there for all we know (OR NOT. IM JUST SAYING.) and Miles and Kelly the people he trusted to stick to his vision, gutted it all and played rag tag with the characters he poured his blood, sweat, and tears into

I know there is another side but thats not an excuse for me

I just want it to change…for all these characters to make it and have a happily ever after to settle down and have a family, instead of the forced ‘acceptance’ thing, to me thats for real life, not fiction unless its say ‘realistic fiction’ or ‘historical fiction’

and believe me there is NOTHING wrong with that, not when you write it well.

Im not saying it should be easy

Im not saying they shouldn’t struggle

But…Harry Potter is a example of the point I’m trying to make, when Ron and Hermione finally got together and settled down and had a family, nobody laughed at that, same with Harry and Jinny (is that how you spell it?)

These characters are to represent people who we can relate too, and when you use them for heartbreak…to me thats not okay, we deal with that every day, we go to church and pray to God to help us accept this…its not babyish to ask for all these characters to make it

I feel like happy endings for these kinds of character are dying, I want to write my own version of RWBY and move forward my own way (in respect of Monty Oum of course, and in a way the coincides my faith) and treat it as real as the original story

It’s been giving me ideas for my own stories

Why I feel so personal about it is being a potential movie director and writer, we accept things that feel wrong to us, it will never change. Thats what the church has been teaching for thousands of years, that its not okay to accept what is wrong, to just roll over or walk away…that the message of it might harm future generations outlook on life, sure we can’t say people come back to life (accept with the miracles of saints, Christ, and the end with the Resurrection of the body) but…just to give people satisfaction, happiness, and something like this WILL happen someday…

Don’t have the time to post a detailed reply right now, but: 👍👍👍

I don’t watch the show, but I get what you are saying.

It’s like characters in books who are killed off when that does not advance the plot, just to add “emotional zing” to the narrative. Better writing wouldn’t need that.

Yeah. I have no clue what he’s talking about.
I guess I just don’t care about various dramas that much. 🤷

Sometimes, I think that tragedy is required. As some who writes fantasy fiction for fun, I have a character that won’t have a happy ending. Happily ever after doesn’t make sense for him, so the best thing he could have is a bittersweet ending; give his death meaning.

Likewise, as a RWBY fan, I think the last few episodes of the third season is basically the shows “Empire Strikes Back” moment. Hit the heroes hard, make it look grim (no pun intended, heh) so that they have room to grow - and to become bigger heroes.

But Pyrrha was overkill, what happened before was enough, at the end of the series all teams RWBY JNPR and SSSN should struggle live and have happily ever afters, this was wrong to me, tragedy happens enough in reality and now I’m compelled to write and follow my own version of RWBY instead, Jaune and Pyrrha should struggle, win, settle down and have a family, all of them, that’s how things should be, at least I think. Bittersweet to me is wrong, tradgedy is wrong to me this is not how characters should end. Not without conflict, struggle and turmoil of course

And yet every forum I go to no one seems to understand, I have to repeat myself

No more characters like Pyrrha built up to be sacrificed like some pig, lamb, cattle for some pagan sacrifice

No more ‘progressive’ hype

No more forced ‘acceptance’

No more ‘Greek Tragedy’

No more fictional shows like RWBY being overkill and slavish to be ‘realistic’

They keep claiming its for the ‘Keep moving forward’ Message, but this seems like its just an excuse to break peoples hearts, to make relatable characters just to kill them off because they love to hurt their intended audiences I feel like its about time someone corrected this by making their own versions to follow, for us to put our feet down and say ‘no, we don’t like this, and we don’t have to accept this’.

Penny getting chopped up was enough

Beacon and Vale in ruins was enough

Cinder stealing the maiden powers was enough

Yang getting her arm chopped off was enough

This was just railroading another death just to make everybody sad

They shifted now towards a bloodthirsty audience and killed our spirits with that

Thats how I feel and I’m not backing down from this…

I just take it so personally because, watching this makes me angry, Pyrrha should at least get a resurrection and a second chance, not in a easy willy nilly poorly written way mind you, but this was just wrong and it happens*** too much time after time after time, it has to stop.***

Quit watching television and movies.
Okay I may have become too upset over this, I’m used to seeing this but this death BUGGED me, like this is becoming more frequent amongst such shows, and shows where they all make it seems to be shrinking, what do I do? Write and follow my own version? Make my own stories and shows with characters like them only with a different outcome?

Life is difficult.

Once you realize that life is difficult, then it no longer is so difficult.

Yes I’ve accepted that in real life but I’m tired of characters like Pyrrha and Jaune get this end over and over and over again

Well, from the perceptive of a fan of the show, I really didn’t like Pyrrha’s death because she was one of my favorite characters. At the same time, from the perspective of a writer her death is something that would leave a lasting impact on the fanbase. She was a fan favorite, after all.

Penny’s destruction? Being a robot, its not that hard for her to be rebuilt. Since various characters in the franchise have cybernetic limbs, its not that hard for Yang to get a new arm. Both will likely be addressed in the next season.

The senselessness of Phyrra’s death is also why, from a narrative perceptive, it makes sense. She didn’t have to die, but Oz and company were to busy keeping secrets and as we’ve seen in the last scene, their past came back to bit them in the butt. Lies, even when used for good intentions, are still lies. That’s a fairly good message to teach, I think.

It also leads into a lot of options for the story to progress. I will agree, however, that a lot of shows these days are trying to cash into the success of Game of Thrones, and the “dark and gritty political drama”.

I know but I just want to write a version were they all make it in the end (not without struggle or conflict of course) I just want to show characters liked her and Jaune can have happily ever afters, they’re ends don’t have to be like this, and n fact is inspired me to write a crossover story called The Lorekeeper were the titular character tries to give them all happy endings which in turn helps combat his inner demons

You can’t dictate what authors will write, unless you’re paying them to write for you. My writing coach once told me, “Write the book you want to read.” So I did, and I found an audience for my stories. Do they like EVERYTHING I write? I’m sure I’m going to annoy some of them when certain plot points get resolved in future books, but it’s my story and I get to decide how it all works out.

Sorry for bringing this back up but Characters like RWBY JNPR and SSSN should have lived through and have happy endings, I’m just so angry to the point where I want to rip my hair out, And a week ago even just have a nightmare of the characters, favorites or not screaming and wailing for me to bring them back somehow, which I know sounds ridiculous but it’s was more like expressing my frustration and feeling powerless, I’m not saying they shouldn’t have conflict but when Ever I try to make my case on other sites they look at me like and audiences like me as if we’re a bunch of idiots, and they call us ‘selfish’ and not ‘keep moving forward’ while they drink the blood of characters like fine wine and praddle and act like they are the decent people and then they told me if I had ‘truly’ accepted tragedy in the past then I would admire Pyrrha’s, I lost three people I loved dear to me in high school all in the same year, to be told that I felt really angry

Im just so bitter and angry at the writers and their audience, and they tell me to find another show when there is ZIP to NONE and they know it

I’m sorry for being hysterical but I believe characters who are virtuous and righteous should have happy endings when they rightfully earned, something the church and her martyrs and saints have been risked their lives for and Christ gave his life on cross for, if I such tradgedy I will go watch the news

I meant to say righteous and innocent folk, not literally fictional characters, I just feel like our culture is spiraling down into a culture of killing fan favorites, payoffs lasting for only two minutes, and tragic/bittersweet endings left and right, and worst of all anyone who tries to say otherwise they call selfish and treason
