Tired of Evangelicals

Just live your Catholic faith with love and charity to all.

I have a neighbor friend that started out with the Catholic “going to hell business”, alway spouting what she believed but would not listen to me or let me talk. She has seen my walk and has softened considerably towards Catholics. Funny thing, her sister converted to Catholicism this last Easter and she attended to mass. She has yet to talk to me about it. I am seeing her faith going in somewhat of a roller coaster now, they are looking for their fourth church since I have known them in the last 5 years.

I also find it helpful to ask them questions as to why they believe this or that. It usually make them think a little harder about their answer. ie: if we all have the Holy Spirit guiding us in truth, why are there so many different interpretations of the bible? Who has authority in your church if something goes wrong? How do you get that intrepretation? Big one- how much history to you know about the Christian faith?

Every time they try and convince you of the evils of Catholicism why not ask them to pray together with you instead. Seriously. You can shut them up in their criticisms, witness to your own faith in Christ, and turn a nasty argument into a prayer session all at the same time. And if they refuse, well that says it all, doesn’t it?

It always mentally disturbed me when I was handed those Jack Chick miniature pieces of evangelical propaganda as I am a convert to Catholicism and new member of our English Latin Mass Society. I normally found they were in the hands of “Goths” who said they had become Christians and I used to put the tracts in the waste bucket with no qualms that I was destroying something seditious.

Evangelicals have it in for Catholics, they will never understand us and so it’s helpful to keep quiet about your denomination if you visit prophetic territory as I have done here in England. Simply listen all night to the speakers and then withdraw politely from the meeting. Do not accept literature handed you casually over beverages or outside sanctuaries.,i.e. if you’re in a Baptist church treat it with the same quiet spirit as characterises a mass chapel.Do not react if when during the meeting after the worship songs which you also don’t need to sing if you don’t know the hymns .do not react to anti-Catholic polemic which you are bound to hear in P r o t e s t a n t fellowships.

Rely on the Holy Spirit to frame one question and you will be called brother by the Christians who have organised the session and be careful with your Spirit granted neutrality. If you manage all this quietly you are worthy of ecumenical acclaim at the last day.

But for Grace:
Personally I am tired of these evangelical protestants trying to convince me to leave my “wicked Catholic” ways. In the last two days I have had two make this attempt, both to the same futile end, for I cannot deny the truth.

What makes it worse is that both of these men were former Catholics, reprobates, even heretics if you will, for they have denied the truth which they knew at first.

So, what do you think, counter-evangalize and attempt to bring them back to the Catholic Church or leave them to their sin?
If you’re up for the challenge you should give it a shot. You have nothing to lose and they have everything to gain. Worse case scenerio… they will hence forth leave you alone concerning Catholism. Best case scenerio… you ALL will start attending mass together. 😃

I only have spoken with a protestant one time, he is a famous person and it was in the signal of his book. But In my town I didn´t know nothing, I know muslims but not protestants. In a JW´s I said that I was catholic, but I didn´t evangelize them, they believe in another invented bible.

I have reached a point where the “evangelicals” could care less what religion I am part of, actually that was the very first day I walked through their door. Far worse then being wicked, reprobated, etc is to become irrelevant. At that point one no longer exists no matter what. One is even outside the arms of Christ. I dont believe that but from a “fellowship” stand point is quite painful.
Are you saying that these evangelicals consider you outside the arms of Christ AND irrelevant? 'Cause that’s just weird. On the other hand, if protestants aren’t trying to evangelize you because they believe that you’re already a Christian, isn’t this a good thing?

Maybe they “cannot deny the truth” either, or what they know of it: any more than a Catholic can - having been Catholic, is not of itself any proof that they were religiously satisfied as Catholics. If they know God better as Evangelicals than as Catholics, good for them. Evangelicalism may be one of God’s ways of giving many Catholics exactly what they need. Catholics can perfectly well live like devils 😦 Better to love God outside the visible limits of the CC, than to hate Him within it. Far better to have the reality of knowing God outside the CC, then a nominal Catholicism within it.

Maybe they want to evangelise you out of love and concern for you - just as Catholics do. We can hardly complain that other Christians treat us as we treat them 🙂 - they too know that evangelism is important: in fact, I suspect that most Protestants are more aware of this than most Catholics. Maybe some Protestants are equally tired of being pestered by Catholics to change from a religion they fimd quite satisfactory and Christian, to Catholicism: which can look pretty atrocious if one has no previous knowledge of it. Catholics need to have a lot more respect for the beliefs of others, instead of charging all over them like a herd of drunken elephants. ##
