Tired of God Not Answering My Prayers

I’ll keep this short, but I’m just getting tired of God not answering my prayers for healing from depression, anxiety and other emotional issues that I’ve had to deal with for most of my life. It’s bad enough that I’ve got to take anti-depressants (which only just seem to numb me out in some ways), but to not get any sort of response, let alone healing for these wounds, just makes me think “Why bother praying to God when he won’t even answer?” And even if he is answering my prayers, I REALLY don’t like the answer he’s given.

Anyways, just needed to get that of my chest.

Sometimes no answer is the answer we need.

This is not the end of the story.

I don’t know if I suffer (medically speaking), but I deal with depressive thoughts and anxiety. One thing I’ve found is that I have slightly greater hope and desire for heaven — where there will never be disappointment, fear, anxiety, worries, etc. Perhaps our mental anguish is a (painful) means of not getting too attached to the world…

The enemy will exploit this by causing a distorted vision and idea of God Who doesn’t care or won’t even listen — that we are merely existing in the periphery of shadows unseen and unheard. That seems to be temptation of distrust that can lead to despair…having fallen prey to it many times, I wish I can give advice on how to conquer it…

Imagine learning cursive writing or the multiplication table for the first time. They seem rather pointless – we can just use the calculator. But it’s to increase our intellectual capability to progress to algebra, geometry, calculus, etc…perhaps God wants to increase hope and trust in His own promise and goodness — God cannot contradict Himself — He will always be good and orient everything towards eventual good — Heaven and participation in His divine nature.

We cannot give in to the voice of the enemy saying, “God does not care.” God is working behind the scenes…somehow.
 
It’s my strong belief that the sicknesses you talk of are caused by demonic forces.

Have you tried wearing a brown scapular? You should.

Do you use the sacraments frequently? You should.

Prayers to St. Dymphna can help.

I believe these acts would help your situation.

2735 In the first place, we ought to be astonished by this fact: when we praise God or give him thanks for his benefits in general, we are not particularly concerned whether or not our prayer is acceptable to him. On the other hand, we demand to see the results of our petitions. What is the image of God that motivates our prayer: an instrument to be used? or the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ?

2736 Are we convinced that “we do not know how to pray as we ought”?23 Are we asking God for “what is good for us”? Our Father knows what we need before we ask him,24 but he awaits our petition because the dignity of his children lies in their freedom. We must pray, then, with his Spirit of freedom, to be able truly to know what he wants.25

2737 "You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions."26 If we ask with a divided heart, we are “adulterers”;27 God cannot answer us, for he desires our well-being, our life. "Or do you suppose that it is in vain that the scripture says, ‘He yearns jealously over the spirit which he has made to dwell in us?’"28 That our God is “jealous” for us is the sign of how true his love is. If we enter into the desire of his Spirit, we shall be heard.
Do not be troubled if you do not immediately receive from God what you ask him; for he desires to do something even greater for you, while you cling to him in prayer.29
God wills that our desire should be exercised in prayer, that we may be able to receive what he is prepared to give.30

Sometimes we get obstacles given to us to show us how much we need God, and how un-self-sufficient we are.

So rather than saying, “Dear God, make this go away,” it’s much more productive to say, “Thy will be done. If you’re going to give me this burden, please give me the grace I need to carry it, and the ability to profit from it.”
 
Try changing the way you pray. Instead of asking God to heal you, ask God to show you what you can do to feel better. Ask Him to put the right people, opportunities etc. That will bring you healing. Also, first ask Him if it’s His will that you should be healed. Sometimes God allows suffering so we can learn something important from it. Ask God to show you what He wants you to learn from this suffering.

That’s how I pray and He always answers. He always tells me that He wants to heal me. That He doesn’t want me to suffer.

I firmly believe that God is never silent. He always replies. Just not in the way we want. I’m praying for you. Don’t worry, one day you will either be fully healed or reach a point to where you can manage your symptoms very well. Jesus really doesn’t want anyone to suffer.
 
Practically, I would start by analyzing behaviors.

Do you have problems with lust?
Do you have problems with bragging?
Desires for revenge?
Desires for power?
Greed?
Overeating or drinking?
Conceit?

If so, you need to confess these behaviors. The processes involved with analyzing and using the sacrament will provide you with the grace to overcome the behaviors (including the grace to be more aware of them).

Throw in some penance (prayer, fasting, almsgiving), and you have a recipe for healing.

Then, go and sin no more (Jesus’s words).
 
Read the first reading from tomorrows Mass and CCC 2737…be at peace.

It’s certainly a great test for you. But I don’t think God will let you endure a burden that is too hard for you to handle. The fact that you are still here means that you are still hanging in there. It it was someone else enduring this then perhaps that person has already lost the fight.
God is always with you but perhaps you have to go through these trials and tribulations in order to show the power of overcoming these issues.
 
Maybe change your prayers. Don’t forget, “You’re Will, not mine”, and also, make sure you are in good standing with the church, regularly take the Sacraments, pray everyday (hopefully a Rosary every day), and I have heard perhaps praying on your knees if you can may help.
 
I will be praying for your depression to end.
I have had multiple depressions with anxiety and in deep depression it seemed like it lasted forever and would never end. If one antidepressant is not doing the job consider asking your doctor to try another. Welbutrin does nothing for me. Zoloff takes away the anxiety and depression for me. I have a friend that zoloft does no good but welbutrin does.
Your depression is not caused by sin or demons. It’s brain chemistry
 
Well if their are areas of answered prayer in your life. Then you have an answer

This borders on superstition. For this suggestion to be correct in must be true that in some cases God would answer your prayer except for the fact you did not utter it on your knees.
 
I prefer the dual theory.

Demons are like magnetic fields. Magnetic fields affect chemistry.

Remember that even Jesus did not get his specific prayer answered (and he is God!) in the Garden agony, but he did equally pray that God’s will be done. And he was strengthened to face the Crucifixion. There’s a lesson there is prayer. God always answers prayer in some way.
What if your eternal happiness really depends on your suffering now? It is good to take the long view, though admittedly it often takes a lot of faith.
