Jesus was in severe agony in the garden. Agony means the devil was really close to him. I believe he was very much depressed.

I don’t recall Jesus’s prayer intention, but you are correct about faith.

It’s to aid in respect given by you supposedly, not saying that the act itself is what helps–but the effects of the act. It makes you be more aware of the dignity of what is happening, and further can serve as mortification.

As I said, that’s what I have heard and I have not (yet) put it in practice myself

You know, I have OCD and depression and for a while I felt somewhat like you do. I was so tired of my condition, especially the unwanted thoughts that came with my OCD. Later on, thank be to God, I was able to learn of saints who endured trials that had to do with mental suffering. For example ( and I’m not conparing the Dark night of the soul to depression, but it helps to see how a saint delt with extreme sadness and dryness you know?) St. Faustina. She went through these tremendous trials where she felt rejected by God, abandoned, dry, and extremely sad. She even got to the point where she would wonder if she offended God by praying or by receiving Him in holy communion. She obviously fought these feelings and would trust in Him with an act of the will, but still it lasted a good while. Sometimes, God gives us these trials so we can share in His cross. He gives us the chance to suffer with Him down here in this way so that we may be able to be closer to Him in heaven. It is our crown really :). Offer it all up to Him, even these feelings that your prayer is not being answered. Read St. Faustina’s diary. She felt many of these things herself when she was going through the dark night of the soul. This is obviously not depression, but it’ll help to have a saintly friend to hold on to when things get rough. I’m also assuming you have a good doctor. Be patient, this life is an instant. unite all your suffering and sadness to all the suffering and sadness Our Lord experiences in this life. Think if His agony in the garden 🙂

In the garden of Olives, Jesus asked that the Father “remove this cup [his impending suffering] from Him.” But if His Father would not do that, “Your will be done.”

Depression destroyed my life and know exactly how you feel. I’ve asked this question many times before, even to the point of giving a God an ultimatum. I just didn’t want to suffer anymore and I was angry.

I had prayed relentlessly for something. When it wasn’t answered, I was devastated. Eventually God did answer the prayers but in unexpected ways. Though I was grateful, I was wounded because it didn’t happen on my terms. You know how it is with depression, how it can magnify things and filter the world around you, causing so much anguish and sadness that it cripples our lives.

God knows what you are going through, he truly does. Depression wants to tell you otherwise but it’s a lie. This is a perfect time to sync your life to his with the beginning of Lent. He took on our nature and became flesh and in the end was abandoned by friends, mocked, beaten to a bloody pulp and nailed to a tree where he was left to die.

This is a life of suffering. There will be moments of joy and times of happiness but there will always be hardships. There is no justice in this life and it’s not fair. But we need to embrace it, accept it and move forward and never stop praying.

Even when you’re upset or angry, and depression is telling you don’t waste your time, pray anyways. Ask for his grace and you will begin to see these signal graces, epiphany moments and strange synchronicities begin to multiply.

My prayers are with you.

Thanks, but I’m really running out patience with God, so much so that I seriously am considering making an ultimatium of some sort. I’ll keep saying the rosary daily like I’ve been doing the last month-and-a-half (mostly for the porn addiction - another ‘wonderful’ gift from depression and other emotional traumas), but I really don’t expect God to answer my prayers anymore.

You know, I suffer with anxiety and depression, and I’m not sure I ever asked God to heal me. What I ask for is strength to endure and the gift of being able to see how I can follow His will, even when my anxiety doesn’t want me to.

He has always answered that prayer.

I read once that God always answers our prayers - sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes it is “not yet” and sometimes it is, “I have something better in mind for you”.

I’m in the same boat as a lot of the posters here. I’ve been struggling with lust and porn/masturbation for years and never overcame it. I try to pray the rosary daily, go to holy hour etc Even confession doesn’t do anything as I relapse soon after maybe a week or so I can receive Jesus once and that’s it fall again.

Marko, it pains me to know that you’re “running out of patience with God.” Don’t despair. If you think that you have already done away with things that may be blocking your prayers to be heard, like lack of faith, unforgiveness, bitterness, pride, etc., and you have already said breakthrough prayers against evil (which can hinder the development of your relationship with God), and you also went to confession, then it’s time to try the power of the Holy Mass.

According to a healing priest, you can confide your troubles in a Holy Mass intention, and I quote him:

“Just ask a priest that you know to say your intention during Mass. This intention can be written as this: “Today we pray for a soul who feels depressed and is spiritually tormented.” Thus the whole mass is said for you, and a mass has a great healing power. Sometimes, we ask to celebrate nine masses for this intention (as in Novena) and sometimes 30 masses.”

You can go to a priest you know or go to the office of your parish church and ask that your intention be heard in the Holy Mass. My mother had already done this many times and she said she paid a minimal fee for this.

Before doing this please ask forgiveness from God for saying that you’re running out of patience with him. For me, this shows lack of faith, and we must manifest that we have great faith in Him as we seek His divine assistance. May God hear your prayers.
