Tithing

Ok, I try to give 10% of my income to my church. I am wondering if it would be ok to use that 10% to other charities on occasion. I.e. local catholic radio station, pro life groups, families in need in the area. Or if I should strictly give 10% to my church. Thank you for your responses.

When I was living in Long Island, NY I belonged to St. Catherine of Sienna in Franklin Square. Our Pastor recommended giving 5% of ones salary to the parish and the other 5% for other charities. I believe it is important to give to other charities as well.

It is not mandatory to give any specific amount or proportion, although one is bound to support the church in some manner.
