My neighbor and I were exchanging e-mails along with some other folks dicussing the Mark Foley issue. Check out what he said:

Gays are not perverts, even though some perverts are gay.

The vast majority of pedophiles are “straight.” A pedophile is not the same thing as a homosexual, but is clearly a pervert.

Congressman Foley is both, and has admitted to being both. Others in Congress have known he was gay for years. That is not an issue. The issue is that he had a thing for under-age boys (pedophilia) which is a Personality Disorder, and that is why he resigned. The big scandal is that several in Congress knew he had pedophile tendencies, and have known for a long time. That is not only an issue, but it is a crime to not report it.

The medical fact is that homosexuality is not a pathology. Anyone who feels that it is, is expressing an opinion that is NOT a fact. And you are wrong. That includes Tony and the Pope. BTW, a very high percentage of Popes have been gay, and the incidence of homosexuality among priests is about double what it is in the general population

Does he have a source for this? I don’t see how that could be part of recorded history even if it were true. We have only had a few popes since the whole “gay thing” became a trend.

Call him on all these unsubstantiated claims he makes.
Tell him to cite proof.
Otherwise, HE is the “wrong” one and all he states is HIS opinion which is to say he has no facts whatsoever.
Calling him out on this stuff will probably irritate him but maybe, just maybe, he’ll actually learn something.

If Foley were truly a pediophile he would have been going after both boys and girls. In addtion he would have been going after pre-pubescent children. What Foley was engaging in was homosexual behavior-pure and simple.

There is no evidenc that a high percentage of Popes were homosexuals. Given the sad state of American Seminaries in the last 30 years her comment of homosexual Priests may very well be true HOWEVER this woud mean at the most 5 to 6% of Priests engaging in homosexual behavior.
 
Don’t forget to hit the reply to all button when you ask for proof of gay popes. All that received the email should have the benefit of hearing where your neighbor got his information from!
 
Be aware that the book that psychologists and psychiatrists use no longer lists homosexualality as a deseased state. So technically she is right. However its a long stretch of the imagination to declare that many of the Popes had the problem. She needs to show documentation other than “Chick-like” screeds. I am confident that she cannot.
 
Foley was targeting an individual he knew was not mature enough for any kind of relationship of a sexual nature, either hetero or homo. Saying he was acting in this fashion only because he had SSA is misleading if not dishonest.

He was acting out of some power trip that may or may not have had anything to do with his sexuality. This individual commited the most reprehensible corruption against an unsuspecting boy.

The dishonest thing is to claim his behavior was pediophilic. He was hitting on an 18 year male with the intention of having homosexual realtions with him. No one said he was acting in this fashion only becuase he was a homosexual-after all we recently had a sitting president of the United States act in the same fashion with a very young female intern. IIRC , however, he didnt resign…

Technically according to psychiatrists. Not technically according to the Church and common sense. Where homosexuality is found anywhere in the animal kingdom, it is found as the result of abnormal, not normal, conditions. Dis-ease, in another words!

The Decision to remove Homosexual Behavior from the disordered list was done by a vote and even then it coudnt muster a majority-it passed by a plurality.
