Hi,
I don’t know if this is the right forum to ask this question, but I have been trying for a long time to find out the title of a Catholic song from my youth and childhood in a Catholic parish in Omaha NE Christ the King. I only know some of the lyrics…
take my heart , I ask you take my life , Oh Father I am yours , I am yours, … I cannot remember exactly? But it is a beautiful beautiful song, I cannot find it in any of the books in any of the churches where I now live or on the internet anywhere ! Help!
I would love to have the title, composer and full lyrics, thanks so much in advance for anything anyone know!
God Bless

Is this the one? I remember it too. The words are awesome!

R- Take our bread,
We ask you take our hearts,
We love you take our lives,
O Father we are Yours, we are Yours.

1- Yours as we stand at the table you set.
Yours as we eat the bread,
our hearts can’t forget.
We are the signs of Your life with us yet.
We are Yours, we are Yours.

2- Your holy people stand washed in Your blood,
Spirit filled, yet hungry,
we await Your food.
Poor though we are,
we have brought ourselves to You.
We are Yours, we are Yours.

YES!!!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it! It is a very moving emotional song for me, and as I have been getting into my religion I believe singing and listening to Catholic and Christian songs and cd’s really is so uplifting and moving for me.
Thanks again 🙂

Hi Ruby,

I’m glad to have helped. You know, I have been humming this on and off since viewing your post, and something didn’t set right with the last verse. I just now remembered how we used to sing it. See if you agree.

We are poor but we’ve brought ourselves, the best we could…
We are Yours…

I remember that song well because it was in my limited repertoire of church music having just started to play the organ for Masses as a 14 year old. Thanks for the memories.

And I remember (this was YEARS ago!) the choir director having us sing this at the offertory when the collection was being taken up and a lot of the congregation started chuckling.

Think about it.

“Take our bread…” and all these people are reaching for their wallets and purses.

I remember it that way too. I guess somewhere along the line someone decided that the meaning was not coming across clearly. Or pershaps some people thought it sounded like bought ourselves rather than bRought ourselves.

You are so welcome!
It has been said that the Lord loves music! In the early days of my conversion, I did the same as you … played spiritual music many hours during the day as I went about my tasks. What a joy to uplift our hearts — and a most excellent means to put oneself in God’s presence and sing to Him!

I used to tape some of these hymns on blanks for my friends and unknown to me, my nurse friend played the tape on a loudspeaker at the hospital where she worked and all of the patients got to hear it. She told me it was deeply moving for them. :angel1: It reminded me of the parable in the bible about the man who had been given talents, and went out and doubled them. She was such an inspiration to me in that regard. Wow!
