I posted this in a thread that has continuous updates regarding new TLM’s, but I thought it would be good to post it as a new topic, like some others have done. This is good way to get the word out to those who haven’t read that thread:

There will be a one-time (unfortunately, but hey it’s better than nothing) Traditional Latin Mass at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Birmingham, AL at 9:00 A.M. Saturday, the 10th of November. The Mass was organized by the Una Voce Chapter of Northern Alabama and will have a meeting immediately following Mass.

Here is the Una Voce Northern Alabama Chapter website:

and here is a promotional poster:

I’m certainly praying that you can have the Mass more often, Fi. Why is it only a ‘one time’ event?

Thank you very much for the prayers. In fact I’m about to go the parish and pray a little more myself that we can have a TLM weekly. This one is only a one time “thing”, because it was organized by the Una Voce Chapter, and they are “borrowing” the Church for the day. There is only one parish in the diocese thus far that is willing to offer the TLM once a week. Unfortunately that parish is a two hour trip for me one-way. Even though I don’t get to attend that parish, I’m am still so thankful that there is even a parish at all in the Birmingham diocese for Catholics who want to assist at a TLM to attend. Una Voce is working very hard to get more Churches to offer the TLM though, and this Saturday is aimed to help in that regard. I know I can’t wait.

Well. knowing the folks at EWTN in Ironside (Birmingham) and our new bishop Robert Baker, and also the folks at the Shrine in Hanceville, as soon as priests and servers can be tarined it will be clebrated on a regular basis. There was a ruling a while back that the Mass celebrated ad orientum cannot be televised. However, that was suspended so that the first Tridentine Masses at the Shrine and at the Cathedral in Birmingham could be televised. It all takes time and epends on the availability of properly-trained priests and servers. We all must be patient.

A slight clarification to my post just above. The Mass celebrated ade orientum from the Shrine cannot be televised.

Fi…

Where exactly is this church in Bham? Towards Bessemer? It’s gorgeous on it’s website!

Are the EWTN priests going to offer the TLM?
I’m not actually sure. The poster said the Mass will be offered by Fr. Alan Mackey. I’ve never met him, and don’t know whether he is from EWTN or not. But I look forward to finding out this Saturday.👍

I just realized that the second link I posted, which had much of the information on it is not pulling up. If you open up the first link I provided and then click on the picture on the first post, it should pull it up for you.

That church is very close to St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church, if that helps with the location. (About 2 1/2 miles away.)

Blessed Sacrament is a lovely Church. We use to have our homeschool Mass there, then we would go downstairs for lunch. So needless to say, the kids really looked forward to being there.

I am sure most of my email list in B’ham is aware of this, but I will send the link out to be sure.

I thought I’d add this tidbit of information:

EWTN will be airing another Solemn Mass (1962 Missal) on Saturday, Dec. 15th:

Sat, 12/15/07 8:00 AM ADVENT SOLEMN MASS OF OUR LADY (EXTRADORDINARY FORM) LIVE (2 hrs.) Celebration of the Advent Solemn Mass of Our Lady by Candlelight (The “Rorate” Mass) from the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama.

Yet another opportunity in our area to see the TLM!

I sent it out to a large B’ham Catholic email list and said something about it at prayer meeting. So I pray it will be a great trun out.

I did, it was fantastic. My first TLM ever, and I must say that when I can find a permanent TLM close by, I might not see a NO for quite a while. If my first Mass was like this, I would have asked “where do I sign up” immediately after Mass was over. There was a good amount of people in attendance, the Mass was beautiful, and so was the Church. I took some pictures of the Church (didn’t take any during Mass though), so I can post them if anybody wants to see it. By far the most beautiful Church I’ve ever been to. The meeting afterward was great too, and it brings me much hope that there will be several permanent TLM’s in the Northern Alabama area in the next coming year.

It would be wonderful if you could share the beauty of that Church, it is hard to explain - amazingly simple and elegant.

I am sure I will see some friends tomorrow that went. I know it will be glowing reports also 😃

Glad to hear that you enjoyed it Fi! It’s in a dangerous part of town. That’s why I didn’t go. Did you feel safe? How was the parking situation? PLEASE post the pictures!!! Their website looked awesome! Tell me more!

Yes ma’am, it is in a somewhat dangerous part of town. Fortunately they had a policeman who sat in the parking lot during Mass (I don’t know if they do this all the time or not). I will try and post the pictures as soon as I can. First I have to figure how to get the pictures from my phone to my computer. As soon I do though, I’ll get those pictures up.

I just noticed that the Una Voce chapter blog put up a few photos already from this morning. I thought I’d post them for everybody to see:
