TLM in MY parish?

Hello all!

My parish priest told me recently that if I could find a priest who knew how to say the TLM and would be willing to do so, he would allow the TLM to occur at the parish (which is a neo-Gothic style church built in 1961). Thus, my question to all of you here: do you know of any priest (and have some contact information for) in the East-Central Indiana area that would be willing to say the TLM at my parish in Muncie, IN at least once? Thank you.

I’d like to express my respect for you and your pastor.

It is obvious that he does not want to celebrate the EF or (if he’s a religious) his superior may be unable to grant permission for him to do so. However, he is not standing in the way of it happening and is willing to put it on the schedule. That deserves admiration and respect.

As for you, you sound appreciative of his gesture and willing to take the lead in finding a priest who can celebrate the EF. You’re not angry or bashing him because he should want to learn this and do it, as many other people would do. You are respectful of his spirituality and he is being respectful of yours.

Thank you everyone who replied. I will probably try to contact one of the orders/communities mentioned (probably the FSSP, as they have the closest parish) and see if it would be possible to have a priest come and say the EF from among their numbers. If it is possible, I will try to mediate between my pastor and the Fraternity to try and set up a date, or to let them get into contact with each other. If all works out, the only thing left would be to spread the word and prayerfully prepare.

JReducation: you are as astute as ever! My pastor is not knowledgeable in the realm of Latin, whereas I am a Latin student. He is a very pious man, however, and I would rather be a parishioner under a pious priest than an impious but skilled Latinist. Not everyone is called to be a linguist, and one cannot expect a man to be a student of languages when that is not his calling or the direction of his skills.

I certainly am grateful that this is being permitted, and hope that it will receive a good welcome!

You’re mentioning an important detail here. Not everyone has an aptitude or an interest in languages or theology. That’s why most priests and brothers only get an eight-year philosophy/theology education. They’re not interested in too much bookwork and scholastics. They really want to get into apostolic work.

I remember when I finished my M.Div. My superior called me outside and delivered the news.

“You’re not going to be ordained deacon or priest. You’re a good theology student and a linguist. Your gifts lay in training priests and religious. I’ve made arrangements for your to go to Rome for post graduate work. You have 30 days to get there. You may want to contact your family and tell them that you’re leaving the country.”

I stood there in awe. I had always thought that I’d be a priest and go off to run a soup kitchen in some far corner of the earth. Then, one of my classmates, who had no interest in doing any priestly work at all, but wanted to be a theologian was ordained, sent to run a homeless shelter and later a hospice for AIDS victims and he’s the happiest little pig in the mud. I went on for more theology, more Latin, Greek, Hebrew, yadda yadda yadda and today, I’m pretty happy in my own mud bath. 😃

In the past, the FSSP priests used to travel to the other side of the region (about 40 mins - 1 hour on a Sunday) to say the EF Mass in that part of town here in the Lower Mainland. But last year a traditional diocesan priest was assigned pastor to that end of town so the FSSP stopped going to that area and the diocesan priest took over.

So yeah, its not unheard of for them to travel some distance to say the Mass. And they will do so as long as the are needed.

I would take a long deep breath and think long and hard about getting any resources from a site that proclaims:

The Novus Ordo service, in any version, must be rejected as clearly unCatholic, sacrilegious, irreverent, scandalous, blasphemous, idolatrous, and conclusively invalid…

When the Novus Ordo service had become so ridiculous that even more and more Newchurchers were deserted it, the prelates of the New Order in Newvatican panicked. They needed some ruse to draw back more bodies into the Novus Ordo pews and get money coming back into the collection-plate to pay into the Sex-crimes Fund. Benedict-Ratzinger, therefore, came up with the Great “Motu” Mess Hoax…
I would advise you to stick with the secure Catholic references you have been given.

Yes, I have been to traditio only a few times, and then because I was searching for a prayer in Latin (it came up on Google) - I found that particular prayer elsewhere. I have no desire to associate with organizations aligned against the Church.
 
My bad and sincere apologies for posting that link. I saw it as a resource for finding priests that say the TLM with doing the required due dilignece. In no intentional way did I intend to promote anything against the Pope and Magisterium, thank you for pointing out that info. :o

No harm no foul. 🙂 I too have gone looking for latin prayers and come across websites that looked good only to find they were harboring ideas I did not want to be a associated with in any way.

Don’t despair. You should be able to find all kinds of Latin or Latin prayers on Vatican websites and Youtube.
