I wouldn’t know the source he was using. I imagine it was from his studies in Rome for his PHD. It was a long time ago and he’s in a different state.

An interesting thing he did was show us the transformation of the missalets used in the USA over the course of years, and how the covers changed and depicted the mindset of society through the years.

Anyway, if I come across anything I’ll let you know.

The Church used those selves as altars as the Scripture they read from were extremely heavy.
Ummm… Scripture is not read from the altar, and probably has never been. In these early churches, the altars were free standing.
Ummm…Scripture is read from the altar at all Extraordinary Masses, as it was for centuries, prior to 1965.

Sorry. Major tense screw-up on my part. Should be “Scripture was never read from the altar, and probably never had been”, referring to the time period in question. The Liturgy of the Catechumens did not take place inside the church, as only baptized Christians were allowed to enter the church.

I don’t understand, both the epistle and gospel are read from the altar at EF low mass.
(NVM I now see your correction)
