Dear Fellow Single “Practicing Catholics,”

I have no idea of where the proper forum for this thread is. But this thread is for all of the single practicing Catholics who feel like they are the only single person out there still trying to practice their faith!

I wont say I just got back from a date, because I cant quite call it that. But I am so tired of meeting guy after guy, who only wants one thing, and that one thing isn`t chastity!

I am 31 but it seems so hard to meet a “like minded” person who is trying to practice their faith. Sometimes, I feel like I want to give up on dating because I get tired of guys only wanting one thing. Sometimes it just does not seem worth it!

Please keep me in your prayers! Sorry for the rant.

Sincerely,

Maria1212

Praying for you!
I know how you feel. I can’t remember the last time I went out on a date (of the few that I’ve managed to have since converting) where the guy didn’t try to make-out (or more!) on the first date!
It seems like all the practicing Catholics are already taken and my choice is either remain alone or settle for something that wouldn’t truly satisfy.
I know there are some decent, single, Catholic men out there somewhere but they seem to be very well hidden!

Try dating when you are pushing 60 and had been married for many years. What seem to be perfectly nice (and often Catholic) men suddenly think they are going to “do you a favor” based on “what you are missing.” AAAUUUUGGGGHHHH!

When my 80+ year old mother was widowed and my age, she told them “I was a door pusher when I was a teenager, and I’m a door pusher now!” Apparently, in the 1940s, a “door pusher” was a girl who sat WAAAYYY on her side of the car rather than next to the young man who was driving. 😃

Although I haven’t dated in this decade (awaiting a Decree of Nullity), I have never been on a date where the man didn’t “try” something. Even on an obviously very bad date, where it was apparent we weren’t at all on the same wave-length. It’s as if they feel it’s expected of them.

tesk tesk. I quess being a male catholic is good. so i know i will find Catholic women. thats funny they always try to pull something when you are dating them. what would they do?

for me really i dont see any at my school i would like. but reading this post has changed my views on what i will find when highschool is finished and college begins

Well, I am a single, practicing catholic, age 63, no interest in sex, so never dates, so unlikely to get into any kind of relationship. Maybe some of us men just want to remain “confirmed bachelors”.

You know…men who have never made the same mistake once:rolleyes:

It can be discouraging to keep running across men who try something on a date. I have rarely had this trouble during my life while dating.

I’m 40ish now. I think that I have done better by mainly dating men whom I met in other circumstances and gotten to know a bit first. I have had multiple chances to marry nice men, but I think that God kept me from making an error since I was not yet Catholic.

I don’t like going on a one-on-one date having just met someone in a club or somewhere. I would rather invite them to a group event like when friends meet for a happy hour. If they turn out creepy, then I have back up and can make a quick exit.

I think that friendship is the basic building block for a good romantic relationship because when we all get old(er) and gray we might just be left with good conversation, if we are lucky. There are good men and women out there. We have to let people know that we are looking. Just think of how many nice people are in our parish who might have a single brother/sister/cousin of the appropriate age.

Once I asked a very awesome visiting priest if he had any single brothers. He was encouraging and told me that asking other faithful Catholics was a good way to find a practicing Catholic spouse. Now he knows that I’m looking (and not just single by choice), so hopefully he will remember me if Mr. “Right for Me” wanders past him.

I’m 23 and I just graduated from college. I tried dating a little bit, but I always felt awkward especially with the whole “hook-up” culture; it really just didn’t feel right.
I decided to focus instead on academics, my extracurricular involvements, and my friendships (both with other men and platonic relationships with women). Now that I’ve graduated I’m focused more on job-hunting/career building and maintaining those friendships.
There are of course those times when I felt left out when friends were getting into relationships, but I pray that my patience will be rewarded when I feel I am at a place where I can responsibly enter a relationship with a view towards marriage.
And for the women out there, yes, there are a lot of “guys” out there with selfish intentions, but I also have met other men who also have the patience and self-control to be responsible in this respect. The Good Guys are out there! 😃

Years ago, I belonged to a singes group called Catholic Alumni Club(CAC) or Catch A Catholic. It was good and met a lot of friends. Some people did end up meeting their spouses in the group.

Thanks for all of the replies. These days, it is hard to have the opportunity to “get to know” a guy as a friend before dating, because it seems like as soon as you go out one-on-one, the “quest to get some” begins. I dont mean to sound so jaded--I was just disappointed last night. I know there are still good practicing Catholic guys out there, they just dont leave near me! hahaha. I will keep on searching though!

I like to think that the more we stand by our faith, the more others will have the courage to do the same.

Sincerely,

Maria1212

I’m 24 and converted 2 years ago. I haven’t been on a date or even seriously talked to a woman since my conversion. There aren’t a lot of practicing Catholics in East Tennessee. That did bother me until recently. Now I think that I might be called someday to the religious life, or at least that I need to open myself up to the possibility of moving in that direction if that is what God wants from me.
