Sort of uncategorizaboe: Sakamichi no Apollon (jazz and high school and relationships), Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi (murder mystery) and Shiro Bako (behind-the-scenes in an anime studio) are my more recent favorites.

Classic shounen: Yuu Yuu Hakusho, Inu Yasha (waited forever for the ending but well worth it).

I keep hearing about this psychological thriller anime movie called Perfect Blue.

My list of recommendations for anime:

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - probably my favorite, superb storyline that never stops giving

Gundam Wing - Best robot fighting I have every seen

Kids on the Slope - Best realistic kids anime, some good Christian themes and jazz music

Sword Art Online - Superb Story, some over sexualization of characters that detracts from the plot. Probably the best sword fighting I have ever seen.

Hellsing & Hellsing Ultimate - Vampire and Vampire hunter, awesome story and action.

Some others I have watched and enjoyed:

Afro Samurai
Appleseed
Gundam Seed
Gundam 08th
Macross Frontier
Space Battleship Yamato 2199
Claymore
Girls Und Panzer
Tenchi Muyo
Avatar: Last Airbender & Legend of Korra (American Animation)
Code Lyoko (French Animation)

Anime is a vast genre and there is good, bad, and indifferent just like every other type of media. There is also some really weird stuff out there as well but don’t let the weird stuff take away from the fantastic stuff.

My main problem with Death Note is that the story puts forth this bit in the overall story about something called Mu, a state of absolute nothingness that all humans who die are sent to. In the first few episodes the character Ryuk makes it clear that in the world of Death Note, Heaven and Hell do not exist. Only oblivion. I don’t need the writer pushing this stuff on me when I’m trying to be entertained. Just made me feel uncomfortable.

Aside from that I like the character L who is pretty much an angsty teen version of Sherlock Holmes.
Its a great series. But theologically speaking its kind of espousing the idea of annihilationism.

Claymore is a good one! Just finished watching Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom. Not so good, but there are some great ones out there.

Have you ever watched blue gender? That’s very good. Going to check out Gundam wing. It better be good.
