Wouldn’t it be good if there was a forum here, where Catholics could just share their experiences with other Catholics. Without feeling the need to explain themselves with ten huge post of the church’s history to every nay sayer who decides to pop in and demand that everything they have just said needs to be proved with the bible? A forum where every witness could give positive accounts of faith. From the everyday Joy that God brings into their lives to miracles. A forum where mods could delete any negative responces. I think its good we give witness to people of our faith and those who aren’t. But i think it would be good to have a special spot where Catholics could stop defending and just relax and enjoy with others the joys of being catholic. A place to recharge the batteries. It’s just my opinion

by far the most energy and webspace devoted in these forums to advancing historical and scriptural debates on Catholic teaching and practice is expended by Catholics debating other Catholics. You can try it, by I predict that by the time the thread reaches the bottom of the first be page we will be arguing about TLM, EENS, mantillas, home-schooling, just war, and kids in church.

I agree with you latin_rite. I’ve thought that myself. Many times I’ve read a thread that was supposed to be a positive affirmation of our faith and then one or two people will come in and throw the whole thread into turmoil. It would be great to have “confrontation-free” zones.

No, I don’t particularly like the idea of locking ourselves away from those who are “visiting” and wish to engage us in dialog. It always annoys me when other forum sites do that…how do we show other who we are if we exclude them from our thoughts. Christ never promised us a confrontation free environment…quite the opposite in fact.

If you need your batteries to be recharged, then my suggestion(s) would be to spend some time alone with Jesus in the Eucharist, pray the Rosary, silent comtemplation, read/study the Scriptures or other books/tapes to grow your faith, listen to christian music, etc. :gopray:

Hi Puzzleannie,
This forum however is for Catholics and non Catholics to discuss and debate Catholic Doctrines as well as other faith’s beliefs. Although it can get heated sometimes there are many people here who are dedicated to the Lord.
God bless,
Jonfan

thanks, I don’t know which comment of mind you are responding to, I am very famliar with this forum having been a member since a couple of months after it was established. being dedicated to Christ, if we judge by forum participants who claim to be so dedicated, is no guarantee of being right, of being charitable, of being logical or even of displaying good will. hang around for a while, you will see what I mean.

I think this is a good idea. Maybe you can start a thread that begins with “rules” (for lack of a better term) for that thread. A place to just see edification would be cool. Or maybe private message a mod and ask if there can be sub folder created for your idea?

I agree it would be nice, especially for people who don’t get to be around other Catholics a lot, it would be a nice place to go and remind yourself that you’re not crazy.
We would certainly have to do something to make sure that it doesn’t get hijacked though.

When I first read this post I thought it was a joke. Why? Because there was a very similar post over at another website from the Protestant prespective saying “wouldn’t it be nice if we Protestants had a place to post where the Catholics wouldn’t bother us”…or words to that effect. I posted there that I thought it was a bad idea and I’ll say the same here. Discussion needs to be polite and charitable…aways…but if you don’t allow your faith and faith-based beliefs to be challenged or questioned you’re not going to grow in your faith because you will not understand it that well. What’s there to hide?

I see what you are saying and I agree with it also. But I think the OP’s original idea is not the whole CAF site being Catholics Only, but a place within it that might be. Speaking only for myself, I get very tired of the bickering, baiting, lambasting, snide remarks, and even complete stupidity from the posts here (of which I am guilty of doing too). I think it’s a great idea to have a place free from discontent for times of refreshing.

People get tired of fighting, or least this people does. “Defending the faith” IS fighting. I am coming more and more to a place that says: If my faith is truth (as I contend it is); truth needs no defending because it stands on its own merits.

You might consider forum.catholic.org/ which has the following rule: “Persistent anti-Catholic rhetoric or arguments against Catholic doctrine are not welcome and may result in suspension of posting ability.” And yes, I have seen posts and threads deleted for being anti-Catholic or against the teachings of the Church.

Have you tried the Catholics Online Forum? It’s a lot like that - very few Protestants, no anti-Catholics - at least, never for more than a few minutes, and lots of good Catholic fellowship, as well as good answers to questions. It’s run by a Vatican priest, very faithful to the Magesterium, but not rabidly conservative, either.

We could have a forum that was simply dedicated to New converts or those in the RCIA. I think thats a great idea. If someone wants to have a debate about Catholicism, well there are certainely enough forums available to do so. However, a special forum for those new to the faith, would be fantastic. I would have to be private, and permission given by the mods.

I feel excluded. 😛 This is the same thing the CARM does (evangelical forum). Do you want to do the same thing?

Sorry rr1213. I didn’t mean to exclude you. I was thinking of those of other denom’s. And I can’t see why you shouldn’t be allowed. as long as there was no dissagreeing. Maybe it would be good for other denoms to come, let them see we Catholics aren’t all about rules etc. that we actually do have a very large spiritual side
To those who didn’t agree i’m sorry but i’m not talking about giving up debating for the whole site, just one forum for us to get togther and share stories and joys of our faith. (yes rr1213 even you would be welcome to come and share the joy that Christ has brought into your life). And to those who offered support thanks your veiws are excatly what i meant.

You do know you are in the non-catholic religions section right?

LOL, Very good M.Oliver!! I am a converting evangelical going through RCIA. I very much appreciate these forum for they have answered many questians I have had and also been an encouragement to me. I am excited to have found the Church that Jesus founded. I cannot blame catholic christians for wanting some peace and not having to listen to all those ant-catholic comments though. But please you people just don’t know how much these forums have meant to others like myself. I praise the Lord for these forums and the people that work so hard to maintain them.

Hi, Well I’m really new here - only a week. Guess I’m still in the “honeymoon” stage. In reading some of your past threads, I’ve had tears in my eyes seeing the love and kindness and humility expressed. I’ve been a part of other forums that sprewed a tremendous amount of aggressiveness and pride. I think you all are doing a great service and I’m honored to be here.

:blessyou:
