My 20-something nephew got sucked into some bad stuff, straightened out his life, but previous actions caught up with him and he has wound up in prison anyway. My sister is so distraught she has lost 5 pounds in 2 days and almost became dehydrated because she forgot to drink anything. I’m going to where she lives and just be with her for about a week. I will make tea and take her to lunch and maybe some walks for exercise. Any advice on what else might help? There is nothing I can fix, of course.

Katy,

Just being there for her will help, I have no doubt.

It’s a great blessing to have family around when things go bad and you need support. I know; my family wrapped loving arms around me for 18 months while my son battled depression. They didn’t need to say anything; but I knew they were there and their presence and prayer kept my head above water.

A cup of tea, a meal, a prayer; a good old fashioned cry. All these will help. As to your nephew; visits, magazines, books and credits for treats (if allowed in the US prison service) will remind him that he is not alone and has a loving family waiting for him. Knowing this will diminish the power of any bad influences he might encounter in gaol.

I will pray for your family; and most especially for your nephew. x

Praying for the intentions of your sister & her son.

Post a prayer request for her, your nephew and your family then a lot of people will be praying for all of you. Then tell her we are praying.
