Yes, I was baptized at 8 days old, I believe. I had 10 years of my mother’s very devout Catholicism (she was a convert herself) before she died. My father did not ever return to the Church after her death and so I fell away, but I realized later that my soul was always seeking for God, just in the wrong ways. My husband was the same, only more so. We had no intention of having religion of any kind as a base for our marriage (House Built Upon Sand Syndrome).
Then we decided to try for a baby. When I got pregnant of course we were excited. I got quite ill, though, and was helpless for the first time in a long time. I don’t know why, but I started to pray (I guess people do that when their backs are against the wall). God had that little opening in my heart and He took it and grew it! Labor and delivery transformed me the rest of the way, and when I held our new little son in my arms, I knew without a doubt that God exists, that He answers prayers, and that He had never left my side all those years although I had turned away from Him. And that I had to return to the Church, and raise my children as Catholics.
We had a lot of repair work to do. We had married civilly and of course I had lots of sins to confess, and had to get confirmed as well. My husband was surprised to say the least, since I had kept my inner process private until after the baby was born. But I’ve never looked back. And I thank GOD for his grace every single day. I thank God that my husband at least allowed our sons to be raised in the Church, although he didn’t assist with that in any way. He could have made it much more difficult for me, and he didn’t. Pray for him, that God can break into his heart the way he broke into mine!
