Could anyone recommend a book or two to help this Latin Catholic learn about both the Maronite Rite as well as Maronite spirituality, traditions, etc? Thank you.

I have a copy of Captivated by Your Teachings, which was written by a Maronite priest for the Maronite Church here in the U.S. Overall it is pretty good, although there is certainly a strong dosage of Latinization contained therein. But it does a good job introducing one to the Maronite Divine Liturgy, Liturgy of the Hours, and spirituality. It’ll also give you a grasp of some of the basic terms used in the Maronite tradition. I’d use that as a starting point and the build on from there.

As far as Maronite spirituality is concern, seeing how the Maronites are a family within the West Syriac tradition, I would recommend reading books from the great Syriac spiritual masters.

I’m not a Maronite, but I found this book by Abbot Paul Naaman to be quite a pleasure to read. It’s called “The Maronites: The Origins of an Antiochene Church: A Historical and Geographical Study of the Fifth to Seventh Centuries” and here’s the amazon link:

amazon.com/The-Maronites-Antiochene-Historical-Geographical/dp/0879072431

It covers 5th to 7th centuries which were important periods to the developement of Maronite spirituality… the time of St. Theodoret, and the monks St. Maron and St. Marcian… 👍

Again… caveat… I’m not a member of the Maronite Church but the Chaldean Church…
