To insulate oneself or not?

The reading today seemed to be relevant to this question. It was about the master who went on a long journey and gave his servants 5, 2 and 1 talents. I would have thought that the master would be happy with the servant who protected his master’s money by hiding it in the ground (after all, infaltion wasn’t that bad in those days was it?) but instead, that servant got condemned. In the homily, the priest said that this story was saying that we should just do nothing because we are afraid, we should always try to do something in good faith (even if it doesn’t work).

There you go, I got an answer, although I’m not sure if this is the answer I wanted to get.
Where is the Holy Spirit when I need a bit of courage?

The thought that crossed my mind as I read here, was that there is a difference between insulating yourself, & isolating yourself.
Now, insulation is, IMO, good. It keeps us from danger.Isolation, on the other hand, is hiding out, & I think we need to watch that we don’t isolate ourselves so much that we never develop any spiritual muscle.
Anyhow, FWIW, that’s my 2 cents…
