Philip P:
Miguel, I’m not for abortion. I do believe it to be a violation of justice, and contrary to the ideal of equal protection under the law.
I also hold to this belief, which is one of the liberals’ grounds for opposition to abortion.

Do we really have to define this explicitly? Members of a group share some sort of commonality. In this case, an obvious thing is humanity. Half are boys. Half are girls. They are all within the first 9 months of life. None of them are protected by law from being murdered. This is discrimination against a particular group. One second before birth, fair game. One second later, legal murder.

.
I think the contrast of partial birth abortion vs the children born alive rule** makes** Miguel’s point. The distinct group can be defined as any human whose HEAD has not passed through the birth canal. The PBA procedure deliberately perverts the birth process so as not to allow the HEAD to clear the mother’s body before the baby is killed. The child is killed IN THE BIRTH CANAL even if he/she would be viable if born. If born that same baby would be protected by the born alive law.

So the group is well defined and I believe he is correct in calling abortion genocide. I honestly believe that in the future we will look back at abortion with same utter revulsion we feel about slavery. It’s just that it will be too late for millions of babies:crying:

Yes. During World War II by the Germans via the infamous “Commissar Order.”
No. The “Commissar Order” did not establish a program of exterminating communists. It was aimed only at Commissars, political officers assigned to military units.

Glad to know at least some liberals think this way. How could any fair-minded person think otherwise?

What’s sad is that this liberal and other Catholic liberals like him have a mixed up sense of negotiable issues versus non-negotiable issues.

There are two problems. One is a wilful blindness, which allows people to support politicians who further the horrible crime of abortion and find reasons to justify their actions.

The other is an attraction to “feel good” approaches to problems – a willingness to commit to courses of action that don’t work.

Richard has laid out the second problem in his discussion of how we should address the issue of abortion, taking what I call “Moral Pragmatism” – if we are morally impelled to act, we are morally impelled to adopt a course of action likely to lead to success.

We must recognize in our hearts that abortion IS murder, because God’s Law trumps Man’s Law. But we must not antagonize those who we seek to persuade.
