To Non-Catholics - Is the CC fatally wrong?

I know that non-Catholic Xians believe that the CC is wrong about some things. My question is, how wrong?

Is the CC so wrong that accepting these teachings is damning to the follower’s eternal soul?

Are there other Xian churches that, iyo, make equally fatal errors?

great question! I do not believe that the teachings of the RCC in question could be considered fatally wrong. Many Evangelical Protestants do consider them as such but never have I witnessed hard evidence of exactly why. However, I do believe that they are not helpful at best and faith distorting at worst. I do believe that’s why the Reformation and especially the English Reformation was such a mild makeover. Much of the RCC’s teachings and doctrine DOES come from the Apostles and the Reformers knew it. Much of the Protestants today wouldn’t even recognize the Reformers even though many of them hang their hats on them.

For what it’s worth…No, no more wrong than any other group who claims authority to know the mind and will of God. He is merciful and loving. God desires all to come to repentance and find wholeness in the Light.

I find much beauty in Catholicism, but my needs are not met in it’s teachings…so I turn elsewhere to find “mythic” words which convey Truth to me…if those “sacred stories” of the CC bring you closer to the Eternal…I’m all for it…the Truth is lived out in our lives…do our beliefs make us more Christlike, more gentle, more loving, more faithful? Didn’t Francis say something to the effect…“Preach the gospel at all times, and when you have to, use words.”

God does not demand that we have 100% perfect doctrinal understandings to be saved. Another way to put it, is that sinners are justified through faith alone; they are not justified by believing in the doctrine of justification through faith alone. If a Roman Catholic has faith that Jesus has died and fully atoned for his sins, and is baptised, that person is justified in Christ. The teachings of the Roman Catholic Church that we as Lutherans believe they are wrong about can be damaging to the faith through which we are justified. That is always the problem with false teaching. It, like yeast, leavens the whole lump and can lead to major issues.

But this is true also of those Protestant communions that teach false doctrine.
