To Non Christians and Christians: If your child asks you

Mum/Dad, what is the Bible?

Would you say “See Google don’t bother me?” 😊

Or spend quality time with your child and sit down and explain to him/her the best way you can?

In the U.S. most people are referring to Christian and Jewish scripture. I have never heard of any other religion refer to their religious writings as the bible.

If I had a child who asked about the Bible, I would get a children’s version and read it with him/her.
 
As a Christian, we don’t wait for him to ask. It’s our duty as Christians to TEACH him God’s Word, whether he asks for it or not.

So we started very early with Bible stories, and still read one every night before bed. This allows for discussion and question time, too.

He goes to Awana, Sunday School, VBS. We use various Christian based curriculum and resources to teach him at him as well.

It’s a many pronged approach, not just a simple story at bedtime. We try to saturate our lives with the Word, and pray that he listens and truly ‘hears’.
 
Yes it is our responsibility as Catholic Christians to introduce sacred scripture into our children’s lives. If our child asks us what the bible is, we should know. If for whatever reason we do not know, we parents are the ones who should be doing the googling.
 
I would never tell my child to “see google and not bother me”, regardless of what he or she was asking me. I intend to begin to teach my children about the Bible prior to them getting to an age where they could read and navigate the internet anyway.

I’ve also never heard of any religion calling their religious writings a “bible”. The world “Bible” is pretty much universally understood as referring to the Judo-Christian canon of Scripture. I believe even Muslims and Mormons refer to the Bible as separate from their other religious writings.

Absolutely agree with you.

The internet can be a dangerous place. Discernment from older persons, is a good and progressive attitude that is worth the effort taken. The youth of today need alot of guidance.

Sure.

Googling using discernment and going to trusted websites or official Catholic sources are best bets for safe and proper surfing for Biblical references. The Church Loves Christ its bridegroom and we must follow his commandments. Pass down what we have learned and practiced.

My Catholic store has many children’s Bibles ranging from small board books to Bibles for young adults.

We sell out all the time. It’s really satisfying to see the many devout Catholic families in my little town.
 
If my child was old enough to articulate such a question, then I probably haven’t been doing my job well. Bible stories were a large part of my childhood growing up Protestant, and I thank God that my parents raised me to be familiar with the Scriptures.
