To pray or not to pray

Greetings,

Please forgive the crudity of this posting as it is my first. My husband and I have had immense pressures to deal with during the past 2 and a half years. It has been a very challenging time for us especially in the spiritual sense. In many areas we have felt forgotten by God.

2 years ago, my husband had a nervous breakdown and lost his job. We have 5 young children. My husband has recovered from his breakdown, but cannot find a decent job. He has great gifts to bring to his chosen field, but even after many attempts he has been unsuccessful at securing suitable employment.

Right now we can pay the bills, however my husband is disillusioned as am I. He wants to give up. I want him to continue searching.

My prayer request is more a question. When does ceasing to pursue something in prayer become an act of despair? or Does persisting with a request mean we are refusing to see God’s will?

We don’t know how to interpret this constant and seemingly inexplicable rejection from the job market.

Can anyone offer the blind some insight??

I think it only becomes and act of depair when you cut yourself off from God totally. You have not. You are only questioning. That is normal. Perhaps God is leading you in a different direction or is placing people in certain positions (behind the scene, so to speak) that have yet to come to fruition. Also, are you able to work in the interim while your husband is waiting for a job? Do not give up on prayer. God is most certainly listening to you. We need to listen with a keen and discerning ear. I will pray for you and your family and will include you in my rosaries. Perhaps others will jump in and offer advice, also. Hang in there. Also, pray to St.Joseph - patron St. of workers. God bless you!
 
Please do not despair. Place all your trust in God. Keep working to find the job that is right for him. God may test us, but will never abandon us. Also, immerse yourself in the sacraments. Only good can come from that.

O Lord, please fill this family woth Your joy and Your strength, and be the love that holds them together. Lead them to the best job that will give them the confidence to serve You more fully. In Jesus name we pray.

Be assured persistence in prayer and even against all the odds is never refusing God’s Will. Praying with you that employment and financial problems will come to an end…

When I have had nothing left to give, or worst to be taken, I still have had prayers to give.

I have said prayers for you and yours.

Pray. Prayers do not have to be long. When you are finding trouble praying, even a tiny simple, “Jesus I love you”, or “Jesus I trust in you, please help me.” is still a prayer.
