Since society doesn’t see mental anguish as “real” pain, does anyone find themselves wishing for what our culture would consider “real” pain (family killed in front of you, serious disease, etc.), so that the emotional suffering you are enduring would be seen as justified and understandable, rather than evidence that we are weak and/or really our fault, and responded to with pity and mercy, rather than “tough it out” and condemnation and “there is always someone worse off?”

Yeah, as if reminding a man on fire that there is always someone worse off actually helps his situation

Praying to St. Dymphna for the health & recovery of all suffering with mental illness & their families.

Yes!

I have wished many a times that I even had cancer, cause people are much more understanding and sympathetic toward you. There are many support groups. Not much for those with mental health issues. Many people don’t want to touch us with a ten foot pole. Even our families at times. We are the modern day “lepers.” 😦
