Since society doesn’t see mental anguish as “real” pain, does anyone find themselves wishing for what our culture would consider “real” pain (family killed in front of you, serious disease, etc.), so that the emotional suffering you are enduring would be seen as justified and understandable, rather than evidence that we are weak and/or really our fault, and responded to with pity and mercy, rather than “tough it out” and condemnation and “there is always someone worse off?”
