To what degree is keeping people occupied a part of national security?

It’s hard for people to revolt when all their time is occupied! Had the Connecticut killer been at work, none of this would have happened! After work, there’s always football or baseball to keep one’s mind occupied.

So true. The fact that he was mentally unstable and had access to assault weapons wouldn’t have entered the equation.

I’ve been thinking of startting some sort of armed rebellion against the Australian government, but what with the cricket season just starting up and a lot of football over the holidays, I just don’t see where I’m going to be able to fit it in.

You can’t force people to be occupied during every single waking hour. Think about what you are saying. That no one with a job has ever committed one of these atrocious acts? What about the school shootings committed by students? Surely they were “occupied”. Not sure where you are going with this one but disagree 100%.

The problem might be in how they are occupied. Keeping people occupied with TV, internet, and video games probably wouldn’t help. In fact, banning all of them, while no doubt unconstitutional, would likely bring about good societal results in terms of having a saner society.

What caused the Connecticut massacre? I can pretty much guess that it was low morale with a chip on somebody’s shoulder. He probably was not mentally ill, other than having Asperger’s, which is not a violent disorder by any means. Lot’s of blame, anger and resentment towards society is likely.

You may think it absurd, but keeping people’s minds occupied at the societal level can, and does, keep them from rebelling the way this guy did. We need to raise the morale of our young people, and keep them mentally occupied with self-rewarding thoughts. How does society convey faith, hope and LOVE towards its citizens except through religion is key.

People arguing over whether guns should be legal is a moot point.

Yours is probably the most Christian of nations on the planet. It doesn’t seem to have any influence on the fact that America spends more time killing its own people than any other industrialised nation.
