First Reading:
From Isaiah 42
“Thus says the LORD:
Here is my servant whom I uphold,
my chosen one with whom I am pleased,
upon whom I have put my spirit;”

Second Reading
" God anointed Jesus of Nazareth
with the Holy Spirit and power."

The Creed
I believe in the Holy Spirit…
“Who proceeds from the Father and the Son”

Today’s readings say the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father; and the Father gives the Son the Holy Spirit.
Please explain the Catholic understanding to me, I’m confused today.

The Father anointing the Son with the Holy Spirit doesn’t mean the Holy Spirit doesn’t also come from the Son.

Put differently: The fact that the Holy Spirit comes from the Father and the Son (Qui ex Patre Filióque* procédit*) doesn’t mean that the Father can’t ceremonially anoint the Son with it. The point of the Bible passage is God showing to those present that Jesus is his beloved Son. NOT to make any comment on the filioque.
