Today's Gospel reading (for 6/8/07)

can someone interpret the below for me? I am a bit confused on the meaning/moral of this passage…thank you!

Gospel
Mk 12:35-37

As Jesus was teaching in the temple area he said,
“How do the scribes claim that the Christ is the son of David?
David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit, said:

The Lord said to my lord,
‘Sit at my right hand
until I place your enemies under your feet.’

David himself calls him ‘lord’;
so how is he his son?”
The great crowd heard this with delight.

Let me read my RSV Bible

And as Jesus taught in the temple, he said. “How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit, declared, ‘The Lord said to My Lord, sit at my right hand till I put your enemies under your feet.’ David himself calls him Lord, so how is he his son?” And the great throng heard him gladly.

The passage refers to how is the Lord refer to as the Son of David? Hence you have, “how is he his son?” I think this passage deals with the Davidic nature of Jesus. Since it is from David’s line that a Messiah is to be born.

The Kind is Lord, and the the Messiah is also Lord. From my understanding. So rightly so, David call Lord said to my Lord. It could also mean that Lord will be sitteth at the Right Hand could refer to Jesus sitting at the Right Hand of God.

The Pharisees at the time could not answer it when Jesus question them.
