today's JW visit

i had a knock at the door this morning.

there was an older man with a bible(?) and a watchtower pamphlet. he wanted to share with me some interesting news that’s going on in the world. would i like a pamphlet?

i said, i’ll exchange a pamphlet for a rosary. he said, what’s a rotary? i said, you know, catholic beads.

he couldn’t get off my porch quick enough.

it’s thanks to all of you here on the forums that i was composed enough to have my reply. thank you all 👍
 
JWs (and OTHER virulent antiCatholics)
tend to get quite nervous when offered a Rosary.
A Rosary looks to them like a weird form of a necklace
with a crucifix hanging from the end, that Catholics
use to “Worship Mary” they think.

I don’t know of any JW who would accept a
Rosary from a householder. Heck, they don’t
even like to accept non-JW LITERATURE, let
alone something like a Rosary.

I know several chinks in the JW armor that are too complex to discuss here, mostly pointing out to them inconsistencies in their own mistranslation of the Bible.

The BEST way is to make sure that YOU keep control of the conversation. Don’t let them try to direct it.

When I’ve done this, THEY have been the one to leave first. They do know when they are cornered, and the only thing to do is to beat a retreat.

hmm, too bad you didn’t have any Catholic tracts handy!
 
I’ve found it best at first not to wrangle over such topics as the Trinity or the immortal soul with the Jehovah’s Witnesses since they prepare to discuss those week after week.

Instead listen to their little presentation, then ask pointed questions regarding their two hopes and their doctrine that Jesus is mediator only for the 144,000 annointed Christians. Also, a good tactic is to have them read Rev. 19:1 from their New World Translation aloud to you, then ask the Witness where that passage places the “great crowd.” 😃

none. waste of a good pamphlet. JWs are not allowed to take other literature. I know I was one of them. don’t waste your time, the rosary thing was good.

We do not need to speculate about or debate the appropriateness or validity of such customs. Jesus gave an authoritative response to the request to teach his followers how to pray. What he said will enlighten and perhaps surprise some readers.

Frankly, Jehovah’s Witnesses view the rosray as being pagan and used for evil practices. So, them running from you offering them a rosray was in fact in their minds running from evil.

It is not them running from the power of God as you pretend.

Basically, you offering them a rosray is like offering them a budda statue or offering them alcohol and porn at your doorstep, they would run from those forms of evil ( as they see it ) too.

The one TraditionalCath mentioned is the best one you can try and give to a JW, but good luck with that, they never take any literature that isn’t approved by the WT. It’s all pagan literature to them.

Another thing you could try is going to Jeff Schwehm’s site: www.catholicxjw.com He has a whole lote of info that can help you speak to a JW at your door. But beware, if you’re not well Bible versed, they can win in most situations. They are trained 5 hrs a week to preach what the falsetower teaches. If I were you, I’d listen to what Ravyn, TraditionalCath and Jaypeeto have to say. They’re experts at the subject. I know a bit more than the regular Catholic, but the 3 of them are great to speak to, especially Jeff Schwehm… hope he joins this thread soon.

Are we supposed to give JWs’ money when they come to the door and give us a Watchtower? A friend at work said that he has given them $5 when they came to his house. I usually speak with them for about 10 minutes. I let them say what they have to say and then they ask if I go to church. Thats when I hit them up with, “yes, i’m Catholic.” That’s the end of talk. I get a handshake and that’s it. I usually take the watchtower and line by bird chage with it.
 
This site about the Trinity JW Tract has proof you can show any JW. It disproves all they teach about the Trinity and how they take the Church out of context and use incomplete quotes to “prove” their points.

NO!!! Don’t give them any money. You’d be contributing to their spreading false teachings. Your friend should do what you do and put the WT to good use, the birds have better use for it than anyone else does.

Due to how good JW’s are at filtering information in their own minds, debating the doctrinal issues they study constantly is generally fruitless until they themselves enter an active mode of consideration.

However, as you state, demonstrating the misquotations in something like their “Should You Believe the Trinity” brochure might cause the Witness to wonder a little about why the Governing Body would stoop to that level, and that may be the first step to their minds opening up a little.

My general principles in dealing with those in controlling groups is to: charitably plant seeds of doubt about their organization, to model a good example so that the member sees that the outside world is not as evil as painted, and to clearly express the hope in Christ all Christians should have.

:confused: thanks for the info, but i didn’t pretend anything.
my main goal is to keep them away from my door 🤷
 
I tell them that I am a Catholic because my studies led me to read the ECF and what they learned from the apostles is what the CC teaches today and has taught for the past 19 centuries.

They I mention how much easier it is today to read the ECF because their writings can be easliy found using Google, especially Ignatius of Antioch.

I leave it to God to pique their curiousity when they are alone.
